A little while ago I purchased some extra large interior washi tape from Etsy. I wasn’t sure what I would use it for, until I had the idea to give this doorway a little pop of color and texture. This project was so much fun, not too time consuming and it’s totally “renter friendly” too!
I love the look of painted stripes in home decor, but I’ve shyed away from them in the past because they look so time consuming. God knows I’m no perfectionist, so this method was the perfect alternative!
I used nearly a whole roll of salmon and mint along with some painter’s tape from the hardware store to complete our doorway. It took me a few hours of taping and trimming with scissors. Totally fulfilling for anyone who loves instant gratification projects! 😉
Best part is… eventually, when I get tired of it, it will be super easy to remove! I love constantly changing our living space, so that possibility excites me!
Do you have any fun weekend projects planned? xo. elsie
wow. love this
I can’t wait to try this out 🙂 Perfect for a rental! Thanks for sharing.
Elsie, this is an incredibly cute idea. I would have never even thought to decorate my house with TAPE! But I have a question for you – I’ve watched you decorate your house over the years and I’ve seen you do several permanent decorations to your home – like painting the cupboards with chalk paint and the painted wall that says “I love you more than ever”. But wonder how much of these cute things have to be undone when you try to sell your house? Was this an issue when trying to sell your previous home? I would like to implement some of your ideas into our home decor, but I’m hesitant, because I don’t think I want to have to repaint over my projects when we move out.
That is AWESOME! What an amazing, unique decor idea.

What a great idea! I love that it adds an unexpected punch of color to an otherwise unused space. This is one DIY I’m not too shy to try 🙂
Such a cute idea! I haven’t picked up a large roll, but I’m inspired to now.
Fun! I love that your painting matches your walls! 🙂
hello. simply beautiful. can you show more of the bedroom. the handwriting and comforter are amazing too!
I love decorating with tape! I put the tape on my cutting mat and use a rotary cutter- you can cut them in bulk and get perfect strips!
Cute idea – I need an archway!

Great idea! Really creative way to add color and texture to an area that’s so easy to overlook.
What an amazing fun idea. Perfect for renters like me who want to personalize a space without being allowed to paint! Can’t wait to try it.
I love this! I’m so glad you shared it because now Ill be able to decorate my dorm room since we’re not allowed to paint. I can’t wait to try this!!
I’m so happy I read this post today!
Today I was planning to buy supplies to paint multi colour stripes on my kitchen walls. It was going to be a BIG project that would probably take a few weeks to finish. This is a perfect alternative and it means that If I don’t get a stripe 100% straight the first time I can just peel it off and start again.
Thanks so much for sharing! I cant wait to get started!
Love and stuff,
Haylz
What a fun idea! That’s awesome. I didn’t realise you could get such wide washi tape. I must remember this because I’m pretty sure my first place will be rented, so this would be a great alternative to painting 😀
