Flavored popcorn was a favorite childhood treat. There was a gourmet popcorn shop near our family doctor’s office. So we would get a popcorn treat after any particularly bad doctor’s visits. I think we partially just loved all the pretty colors. 🙂
I was delighted to learn that you can make your own flavored popcorn at home, pretty easily, using another childhood favorite: Kool-Aid. Oh yeah! Continuing our sugar rush from yesterday, let’s make some colorful popcorn, guys.

Flavored Popcorn, recipe adapted from here.
6 quarts popped popcorn
2 cups sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
2/3 cup butter
1 packet of Kool-aid (choose your flavor)
1 teaspoons baking soda
Pop the popcorn. Cover a few large baking sheets, or a clean counter top, with wax paper. Spray with a little non cook cooking spray.
In a large pot combine the sugar, corn syrup and butter. Cook until it begins to boil. Continue cooking for 3 minutes, stirring as you go. Remove from heat and stir in the Kool-aid. Now stir in the baking soda.
This will cause the mixture to puff up (which is why you want to use a large pot, not a small one) so be careful not to burn yourself. Drizzle the mixture over the popcorn. Try to get every piece of popcorn coated with the mixture as best you can.
We served this popcorn alongside the candy vanilla milkshakes. Sugar overload? Definitely. But, it was fun. 🙂 xo. Emma
The candy milkshakes were a fabulous idea, and this was a great way to follow them up! Never thought to flavor my popcorn in a sweet way, and I’d DEFINITELY never have considered using Kool-Aid to do it! Love this idea 🙂

Just wondering if there is an alternative to Kool-aid…sadly I can’t find it in the UK
They look amazing! And so easily adaptable to any kids party theme 🙂

This will make my movie nights even more awesome =) Thanks for the tip madam!
Yummy!!
And the baking trays are for…?
Think you’re missing a few descriptive details.
Is there something you could use instead of corn syrup? Do you think maple syrup or honey would work?
Colorful 🙂
Thanks
