I am pretty sure that I’m not alone in this sentiment, but I looooove the look of marble. My dream would be a marble countertop in my kitchen (although I know they aren’t as stain resistant as other stone options), but since that renovation is still a long way off, I’ll have to get by with my marble cheeseboard instead.
I was wondering what else I could make marble to add that textured look to a kitchen space. Since almost everyone has a utensil holder somewhere in their kitchen, I thought that would be a great place to start.
The key to this makeover is finding a realistic marble contact paper (I chose this one) to use on your utensil holder.
I just cut a piece that was a little taller than I needed, applied the contact paper to the outside of the utensil holder (thankfully, you can peel if off and start over if your placement is wrong), and then ran an X-Acto knife along the top and bottom edges to trim the excess paper. Done!
Of course, the great thing about marble contact paper is that it is a fraction of the cost of real marble, but you still get the fancy look of the real thing. What other items would you cover with the contact paper? xo. Laura

Wow! It couldn’t be any better!
How come brilliant ideas always hit brilliant minds like Laura?! Lol
Anyways it seems like I should grab my favorite print of contact paper and start working, hmmmm!

I’m thinking this could work on my bathroom counter as a cool update!
Love this!! As for your future counter tops..never fear! I got the best of both worlds with Silestone’s “Lyra” looks & feels just like carrera marble without the drawbacks!!!
When you do decide to redo your countertops don’t disregard marble. There are great sealant products that have 15-25 year warranties against stains making marble a great choice for everyone and the sealant is very reasonable, we sell our 15 year Dry-Treat warranty for just under $300 and have not had any marble countertops that have even had to have stain removal. =)
Been looking for marble contact paper-thanks for the link! Yours looks great!

The contact paper turned out looking really good! I’m impressed. 🙂 My old roommate used contact paper to cover up the ugly, old glass door to our shower in college. (4 girls, 1 bathroom, 1 shower with a see through door = awkward. Contact paper solved that problem and made it much cuter!)
I love contact paper! So many thing you can do with them! Cover tables, the inside of drawers! I particularly love the wood looking ones and the super colorful ones!!
