You would think that if we are talking about style crushes from the mega hit show Mad Men, I would be all about the Betty Draper look (you know, blondes sticking up for blondes and what not). But I have to say that while we share the same colored coif, that’s about where the similarities end for me. I’m actually a much bigger fan of the second Mrs. Draper—Megan! I’ve always loved her 60s mod look and thought it felt much younger and fresher than the leftover 50s housewife vibe of the early 60s. All the prints, shift dresses, and chiffon sleeves of Megan’s wardrobe are totally up my ally. So when I saw this pink vintage number at a vintage store in Nashville last fall, well, I knew it would be the perfect homage to her mid-century look.

I love that there are so many vintage looks as well as new dresses right now that give you that swinging 60s look. You can do a dressier number with a shorter kitten heel or add some chelsea boots (or tall go-go boots) to a mini shift dress for a chic daytime look. Don’t forget your oversized sunnies!
I think one key to making vintage pieces wearable is not overdoing it with the hair and makeup. I actually wore this dress recently for a 60s themed cocktail party I threw for my birthday, but I paired it with giant teased hair, super thick lashes, and long press on nails. Perfect for the party, but a little too much of a costume look for my taste if I was going to go out on the town. However, with some toned down hair and makeup, this dress is totally ready for a date night or cocktails with the girls—no matter what decade it is! I think Megan would be proud of this one.
