Almost everybody is a bit obsessed with some aspect of their hair care. It might be finding the perfect product for frizzy hair, vitamins to encourage slow growing hair to move a little faster, a shampoo that leaves your hair feeling weightless and clean…there are lots of things you could focus on. I’m all about finding different ways to create soft waves in my hair.
I usually do this method to create curls, but my new Nashville hairdresser, Marwa, was showing me how she creates waves with a hair dryer instead, and I’ve been hooked on this method lately. Wanna try it?
1. Start by washing and drying your hair as you normally would, but concentrate on getting the few inches near the root totally dry first with your hair dryer.
2. Once your roots are dry and the rest of your hair is about 85% dry, start twisting sections of your hair away from your face and concentrate your dryer on that twisted strand. Keep twisting it, letting it relax a bit, and retwisting it for 1-2 minutes.
3. Continue to twist and dry sections until you have the whole head twisted (I do 4 twists per side). Go back over the twists for a few minutes at a time until you can feel that all the hair inside the twist is dry.
Allow the twists to totally cool or use a cool setting on your dryer to get the curl to set as much as possible before separating.
4. Gently separate the curls with your fingers and use a wave spray to keep the curls in place. I also use a bit of spray wax on my ends to keep them from getting frizzy (just spray a tad on your fingers and then roll your ends between your fingers).
The bigger the chunks of hair you twist, the looser your waves will be. So try different amounts to see which gives you the curl you are looking for.
I like to have this option in my repertoire as well because I think it gives a little more of a messy bedhead wave compared to my usual more polished curls. I’m always OK with more options. Hope you’ll give this a try too! xo. Laura

Or, if time permits, simply leave a couple braids in damp hair until dry and achieve the exact same result with no damage to your hair. My Mom did that on my long hair as a kid sometimes 🙂
Love the look!

This is such a helpful trick. I have totally straight hair – and think i will be using this trick to change it up once in a while. Thank you for sharing!
This is such an awesome trick! I’m definitely going to try this next time I blow dry my hair!

Although I have natural curly hair this sounds like an interesting method!

Wow! Love that! I also have twisted all my pieces and put back in a low twisted bun when it’s almost dry. Then remove, and voila! Just another way to throw into your wavy-times 🙂 Merry Christmas!!

This is genious! I’m searching for these kind of curls for months, thank you! Now I finally know how I want my hair for New Year, thanks! Stay the curls long in your hair?
(So sorry for my bad English..)
You must go to Parlour and Juke! I’ve been going there for four years and I will never go anywhere else.
This is beautiful! I definitely need to try this.
I’ve never tried this but I’m intrigued. I’ve been trying to gravitate more towards my hairdryer than my hair straightener for hairstyling lately. Looks forward to trying this out.
