Aimee’s Everyday Styling Routine

Aimee's Everyday Styling Routine2Well, hello there! Aimee here, and I am so excited to be able to share my daily makeup routine with you guys. Now, I will have to say I’m not some kind of makeup guru or anything, but I do dabble in some makeup styling that is great for just my everyday. Aimee DurhamWhen I wake up in the mornings I usually start my skin care routine. It’s crucial to have a good base to be able to apply makeup to. I use an exfoliating facial sponge that you can find at most any drugstore and the 3-in-One Step cleanser by Vichy. Exfoliating is a very important step for me because of some of the makeup I use.  I also use their Vichy Vichy Aqualia Thermal Light Fortifying & Soothing 24Hr Hydrating Care.

I then apply my foundation, and this is where the exfoliating comes in. I use Etude House Precious Mineral Sun BB Cream with SPF 50 (a Korean brand). If you have never used BB cream you should give it a try. I prefer the Korean brands, because they match my skin tone better, but many American brands have their versions now as well. BB cream is a combination of SPF, moisturizer, a primer and a foundation. I swear by it, but you must exfoliate well, because it has a tendency to show dead skin. I then seal everything with the Etude House BB Magic Mist and Mineral Wear talc—free correcting powder by Physicians Formula. Aimee's eyelinerI then use a bronzer under my cheek bones.  Ada Cosmetics has a nice loose bronzer that I use in Golden. I then do the suck-in-cheek thing and put blush right on my check bones, I use contouring blush by Covergirl in Refined Rose3I then use a contouring (I’m all about that) eye shadow by Almay called Intense i-color. It goes by your eye color and has three shades to use on your lid, crease, and brow bone. It takes all of the guess work out of it. I brush a little of the lightest brow bone color in the corner of my eye as well. It opens them up and makes them pop (or at least that’s what I’ve heard the pros say). I line my eyes with Eyeko London Skinny liquid eyeliner in Olive.

I then use CoverGirl Lash Blast Volume Blasting Mascara. I like how the brush is shaped, and it really coats my top and bottom lashes without a lot of clumps.4For everyday I usually use a lip gloss instead of any lipstick, and right now I am using Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss in Sunset Peach and Dandelion by Benefit. Peach really goes well on darker skin tones.  Aimee's lip gloss7And that’s it for my everyday look! It’s clean and natural and that’s what I aim for. I also wanted to add how I take everything up a notch to transform the look from day the night. I usually just make the crease in my eye shadow a little more smokey and add a lip tint or lip stick. Here I am using Tangerine in the Sephora + Pantone Universe line, but I am also crazy about Tony Moly lip tint in Red Apple. Aimee's favorite lip tintWhen it comes to my hair I am not ashamed to say that I use extensions. In my line of work, broadcast journalism, it is not industry standard to have really long hair, so I use the same method as what was previously featured on the blog and you can see it here. The one thing I would add is that I use extensions with a coarser hair texture to match my natural hair. I don’t go with the bone straight hair because, my hair is naturally curly and it looks more natural that way.9Thanks for letting me share my everyday styling routine! xo. Aimee

(P.S. See a few of our past Everyday Styling routines here, here, here and here. As always, a big thank you to every lady who bravely volunteers to share her styling routine with us.)

  • Thanks for sharing another one with us! For Aimee: how do you get the BB cream to match your shade?

  • I really enjoy reading ”Everyday Styling routines” posts.
From this post i find really special and fresh the lipstick’s color!!!!
    Forest’s Nymph!!! 🙂

  • I love using mineral makeup! I agree, though, about exfoliating very well!

  • Although I love this styling routine, I have been patiently awaiting to see Elsie’s styling routine. Is that something that you plan to share?

  • I’m in love with these routine posts! They’re so much fun and show a variety of ways to do make up.
I love Aimee’s routine especially! Thanks for sharing.

  • I absolutely adore your lip tint color choice! It is a magnificent shade…what would you call the color??? -_-

  • I love this tutorial! I think it would also look great with some brow filler to extend the eyebrow and make a more dramatic look.

  • I love this post! One of the things that brings me simple pleasure is getting ready to go out somewhere with my girlfriends and watching their standard morning/night beauty routine! So inspiring and girly 🙂

  • Very nice! I use the same mascara and love it! 🙂

  • Oh I’m so glad this is back! I thought it was over 😛 Love this series SO much! Waiting [im]patiently for Elsie to share hers with us :):)

  • Love your glasses they fit you face and your style…

  • Gorgeous! I love the lip colour!

  • This is exactly the sort of daily makeup styling I need. Just a little pick me up! I love it!

  • Amiee, you’re lovely! I’m diggin’ the eye liner, too. So simple and chic.

  • Love this type of posts 🙂 How can I share my everyday routine?? I don’t have it photographed yet but would love love love to collaborate with abeautifulmess. I tried sharing my Christmas felt pizza project but that didn’t work out (you must have missed my email). So how would I go about submitting this type of post?

    love from prague,

  • It’s quite astonishing how what you call “simple” makeup can seem reaaaally heavy for people from other cultures… The result is nice but I would not call this simple nor natural. Funny culture difference 🙂

  • I love it, but you can really elevate your look by doing your brows, too! 🙂 Give it a try!

  • I’m glad that the Everyday Styling routine is back! I love her routine, also use the same mascara. I’m dying to read about Elsie’s everyday routine. Please. Please. Please. xoxo.

  • Wow wow wow. Pretty lady! 😀

I’m really digging the look of the eyeliner! (And it comes in purple, which is kind of my jam. Yay!)

  • Echoing what others have said: LOVE the tangerine lippy! And I’m also recently obsessed with BB cream- I’m using Tarte’s version. It is good stuff! I recently got a Clarisonic face brush so that helps make my skin soft and exfoliated and ready for the BB cream.

Also, I really love the pic with the glasses- too cute! These Everyday Styling posts are my fave for sure!

  • great look! huge fan of bb cream my fave is the smashbox one right now. I want to try that lipgloss by revlon I have other colors from that line but not that one. xx. gigi. food and beauty blogger @

  • Dear E,
Yes! Actually I have some suggestions on lip sticks for darker skin tones. I steer clear from the shimmers and anything that can be on the blue side like purples and I go more with rich reds and bright pinks. I love the bright pink trend!

  • I love and appreciate seeing other girls’ beauty routine for the ideas and tips I always get!

  • Love the lips!

I just posted my everyday make up routine on my blog today!

    Jessica Nichole

  • What a gorgeous natural beauty! I have a similar makeup routine except I don’t think I turn out as fabulous as her 🙁
    xo Emily @

  • I am loving that lip color! Just gorgeous!

    Stephanie May*

  • So pretty! I appreciate that her routine is simple and I love the tangerine lip gloss!

  • I love to get inspiration from the way other people do their makeup. New perspective.

  • I really need to start using BB cream, I hear so many positive things about it. You look gorgeous!

  • Love how she goes from the day to night look. And I’ve got to try out some BB cream – I’ve been seeing it everywhere!

  • I will definitely have to try a BB cream! I’ve never used on but so many people have recommended it. Great look!

  • She looks so pretty without makeup, but all done up she looks great, too! I love the lip shade – bold and beautiful!

  • Korean BB cream is the bomb. I swear by Missha M Perfect Cover.

One tip you might want to give readers is that BB generally goes on a funky shade (kind of grey), but once it oxidizes, blends in with your natural skin tone. It’s a bit freaky the first time that you apply it.

  • I’ve been meaning to try BB cream for a while now, and this post has made me want to try it even more! That and I’m so thankful for the heads-up on the eyeliner. I have been searching for a good marker-style liquid liner for the longest time.

  • I love her look! She’s gorgeous!
    Katie xx

  • Recently discovered the magic of BB cream too! Works wonders. Thanks for sharing, beautiful!

  • love this! and i have a question for Aimee, do you have any lipstick tips or favorite colors for women with darker lips?

  • I am into the simplicity of the routine because who has time in the morning? I also use that mascara. I have tried so so many, in brand and price range and I always come back good ole drugstore lash blast.

check us out? follow us back?

  • Love the lipstick color !!
Have a look at my new post:

  • I love your eyeliner! Liquid eyeliner is the bomb diggity (:

    xo, Clare

  • Thanks for sharing! I agree about the BB creams, I just started using them and I love them!

  • So pretty! I love the everyday styling routine series you guys do, and it’s so great to see make-up tutorials with someone with darker skin tones. xoxo

  • She picked such beautiful colors that really look nice on her! Thanks for the more natural look inspiration! =)

  • This is definitely one of my favorite features on the blog! You should do one Elsie! 🙂

  • I love the tangerine lip color! You have such beautiful lips for it!

  • I love my BB as well! I like your routine but unfortunatelly I don’t like getting up early so I have to do mine fast:D

  • I love the styling routine posts!

I will admit that I am one of those girls that never learned how to wear make up or “do” my hair in high school, it just wasn’t something my friends and I cared for.

But now that I find myself entering the professional world it is a skill that women are expected to have, and although it’s fun to experiment on my own, it is great to see real life styling routines that I can actually pull off and don’t require like 40 different products!

    Thanks ladies!

Also I love love that color in the last photo! So cute!

  • That lip tint is such a nice colour! Love this routine, simple and sweet 🙂
