We are happy to welcome Shannon Acheson to the blog today to share her lovely home with us!
“We had outgrown our last house – a bungalow – and were looking for something a little larger for our family of five, but not huge. This house fit the bill with a greaty layout and enough space for everyone. We moved in 10 days before we were to host Christmas in 2012. Not something I’d recommend but it turned out okay!”
“The whole main floor is my favorite space in the house because it houses our living room, dining room and kitchen. Each of those rooms is open and bright and full of my favorite things. We host family and friends and everything from the big squishy couches to the farmhouse table are well loved and used.”
“There are several things my husband and I have worked together to DIY in our home. Ourbrickmaker style coffee table, the sliding barn door, the farmhouse dining table, open kitchen shelving and even my desk have our personal stamp on them. We installed hand scraped laminate floors and faux board and batten. My favorite thrifted finds are our vintage bar cart and the fancy ornate framed chalkboard in our dining room.”
“We’ve lived in this house for just over a year and a half – which isn’t that long. But we’ve made good use of the time. We’ve updated the kitchen, laid new flooring and painted so many surfaces! Our style has evolved to be a bit more eclectic than before. I adore many looks: farmhouse, industrial, shabby, etc. So as much as I find eclectic to be a pretty generic term, it’s the only way I can describe our style.”
Thank you so much for sharing your home with us, Shannon! You can find more of Shannon on her website, AKA Design + Life. xo.

I am in LOVE with the headboard as well. I also like all the grays, browns, and whites, but instead of feeling overly-industrial it still feels warm and full of light in the home. Gorgeous!

It’s kind of an old frenchy style decoration and i’m a huge fan of that style (no, the fact that i’m french as nothing to do with it!) i think it’s very elegant and so charming, especially all those vintage furniture!
Beautiful home Shannon, congrats!

Whhhhaaatttt?! so gorgeous! My friends recently made a reclaimed barn board headboard for their master bedroom and it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen and perfectly compliments their 100+ year old home.

I love the restrained color scheme and the modern take on country style! I always shied away from country style when I first got my own place, but now I’m finding myself drawn to it more and more. Very nice!

Shannon – your house is a dream! I clicked around – because I couldn’t resist reading about your vintage bar cart! – and you made an instant follower out of me! Thank you for sharing.
And speaking of decorating… thank you Elsie & Emma for writing yet another completely inspiring book! It may be becoming – okay it totally already is – my favorite decorating book of all time. And thank you for loving your readers and followers the way you do – Elsie even commented on my Instagram post yesterday! – it makes us feel (or at least, it makes ME feel) like we can really get to know you two incredibly talented women. And what a blessing that is! xo
