10 Awesome DIY Brass Light Fixtures

10 Awesome DIY Brass Light Fixtures! (click through for the complete list)I have spent the last few months obsessively researching all things home decor in preparation for our new house. It's gotten downright funny how my husband reacts when I show him yet another subway tile pattern or brass light fixture (and don't even get me started on the floor stain decision process—haha—that's another story for another time. Haha!) Anyway, my point is, I've learned a TON of useful information about decorating and now I want to share ALL OF IT with you. That's what blogs are for. Ammiright?

I'm not sure if I'll be brave enough to attempt a DIY light fixture without my dad's help (Dad! You reading this??). I think I'm leaning more toward buying most of my fixtures (I'll share my shopping guide with you soon!), but I wanted to share these DIYs with you because a. they are incredible, and b. I know some of you are much braver than I am.

Disclaimer—these aren't all technically bronze. There's some copper too. But I didn't think you would mind too much! They're all pretty.

  • Just wondering – the link in #4, for the molecule light? It takes me to a website for a designer who makes lamps selling for over 10k. Do you have the correct link for the kits? I can’t find them anywhere and would really, really appreciate your help!! Thanks!

  • So beautiful and inspiring, thanks for these! Love, love, love!. Looking forward to adding one of these to my next project this winter! Thanks so much.

  • Isn’t it so exciting and interesting to see that you can do something or crafts on your own. Those DIY tips and tutorials are so helpful for you to become creative and artistic in your own way.

  • I made the first one pictured (from One Kings Lane), and now that it’s installed, I love it. We put it on a dimmer switch, so it goes all the way from gentle ambiance to super-bright task lighting (since our dining room table is also our main work space).

I also learned a few things along the way:

    – If you order from the sources One Kings Lane recommends, put all the pieces together without any wiring as soon as your package arrives, to make sure the brass pieces fit together. We ordered the pieces and then didn’t get around to assembly for a whole year … and had to pay for one or two new pieces because they were defective and the one-year warranty had expired.

    – Have electrical tape on hand. All those right angles in the lamp arms tend to cut into the electrical wires as you screw it together … which electrifies the entire chandelier … which blows a fuse and/or a light switch when you turn it on. Which may or may not have happened to us. 🙂 Wrapping the wires with electrical tape inside those tight corners fixed that issue.

    – One Kings Lane doesn’t really talk about how to hang it from your ceiling. We used a thin cable to hang it from this ceiling kit from Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/listing/201130642/raw-brass-ceiling-canopy-kit-pendant – that shop had great service) and covered the hole in our ceiling from the previous light fixture with a diy minimalist medallion a la The Brick House: http://www.the-brick-house.com/2013/09/diy-ceiling-medallion/

It was a lot of work, but I’d totally do it again!

  • I love all of them, maybe I’ll try one when I get my own place someday. I’ve been loving brass stuff lately!

I developed a DIY mini sputnik style chandelier kit which has all the components picked out and ready to go, plus detailed instructions. Perfect for anyone who’s tacking their first DIY light project and is a bit intimidated with the electrical aspect.

  • That DIY sputnik one is incredible! I wish my crafting skills were at that level!
