D.I.Y. Thread Spool Wine Corks

Spools 1Today I want to share a cute and easy idea for making your own wine corks! These fun, decorative corks make sweet gifts. I love using them in my home because they add a little bit of personality!

Spools 2Supplies needed: wood spools and corks (i got mine from hobby lobby), double sided tape, wood glue, embriodery thread, scissors.

Spools 31. Use double sided tape to begin adhering thread to your spoot. You can use a vintage spool with thread already on it if you like too. 2. Wrap thread around the entire spool. Be sure all the wood is covered. 3-4. Use a small dot of glue to secure the end of the thread. Rub it in so that it will dry clear.

Spools 4Next, Adhere your corks to your spools using wood glue. Let them dry completely.

Spools 5Spools 7Aren’t they cute!? This project is super quick and a fun gift idea for any wine lovers in your life!

Cork coasterI also wanted to share a few other D.I.Y. projects using corks. I love this coaster project from Apartment Therapy.

Cork stampsI think this how-to for turning corks into tiny stamps from Sweet Spot is so adorable!

Cork bath matAnd this cork bath mat from Crafty Nest is pretty amazing too! I think I might save up a stash for this project!

Hope your day is lovely. xo. elsie

  • It would take a lot of time to half this many corks with a small knife. After trying many kinds of blades, I found that a scroll saw made it quick work to get through my cork collection.

  • I love your ideas & I too love corks! I repurposed a wall mounted coat rack that had missing pegs which I replaced with corks and knobs. With a fresh coat of paint and a little mod pouge, we had created the most beautiful necklace/bracelet hanger!
    Thanks for the ideas!

  • Remedies for dark spots that worked for you?I am A poesrn of color I have dark spots from acne. It’s gotten pretty bad in the last few months. It’s on my chin by where sideburns are. I’ve read on many website lemon juice works, crushed vitamin C and many other remedies. I’m tired of hearing oh I heard this or that worked. I want to hear from someone that used a remedy that actually lightened their dark spots how long did it take before you saw results? Also anyone know of any blogs or online groups I can post my. Erode and after pics/results? I started using lemon juice yesterday so I’d like to take pics along the way. Thanks everyone!!Sorry about the typo! I meant blogs or online groups where I can post pics of my spots and the results.

  • One of the references in Wegman Report is:Valentine, Tom (1987) “Magnetics may hold key to ozone layer prbloems,” Magnets,2(1) 18-26.I’m having a hard time finding that although I do findtom valentine national tattlerand that yields interesting hits. This is one of the numerous bibliography entries that is never referenced and although it has to compete with some other winners, it may be the most bogus.

  • Wreaths are a crafter’s ftravioe project: every one is unique, they can have so many different looks, and they are often quick and easy, which is perfect if you’re an impatient crafter. One of my best friends, Jen from Tatertots and Jello is a master of making the most adorable crafts. She can turn an old t-shirt into a really cool sparkly Halloween wreath! Well, in this case, the t-shirt wasn’t old it was a 3xl shirt she found at Dollar Tree. She also bought all the other materials for this project at the dollar store, spending a grand total of $4. • esta muito giro Lendinas! o que mais gosto e de teres juntado o util ao agareavdl, a cortica e um material de excelencia, e o placard da sempre jeito e serve de decoracao tambem!

  • That neckalce is That neckalce is sooo cute! Make me one? : )Black with a pink bow. Oh and glitter Could you make a neckalce like that with a heart instead of a bow? I want one with my boyfriends name too His name is James. Black and pink as well with glitter. Pleaseee!-Shandi

  • Jim, Wayne Davidson’s an interesting guy, he posts on Real Climate quite freenqutly. He’s of the opinion that arctic conditions are deteriorating more quickly than the scientific community at large believes. His dataset’s interesting, but I’m not competent to judge whether his results are good or not. But given his track record at Real Climate, I’d say that a polite e-mail to him would lead to a response and an opportunity for correspondence, if you want to give it a shot. He seems very approachable.

  • I find it curious that Dr Curry has spent so much time and efrfot engaging with the skeptical blogs, but I find very little engagement from her in venues such as this. There was a recent drive-by post at realclimate that kicked up a stink, and then nothing. No engagement in the aftermath in that venue. It feels a bit one-sided to me. I got the impression originally she was trying to reach out and increase understanding provide a bridge between the science and those that have lost faith in the scientific process. Yet everything recently from her has been fairly vociferous criticism of scientists, the CRU investigations and the IPCC processes. I see none of the balance I would expect.

  • Great Ideas!

  • This is such a cute idea and great for gifts! I’m having trouble with the sizes though. What size corks and wooden spools did you use? I found corks that will work for wine bottles, but the wooden spools I can only find miniature or extra large spools. We don’t have a Hobby Lobby here sadly. 🙁

  • This sounds like a fun idea, but I’m wondering how strong the bond would be. It would need to be very strong, since it is usually very hard to pull out a cork…

  • This post is ridiculously brilliant. I particularly love the cork-turned-stamp.

  • LOVE this and I’m wanting to make a bunch for Christmas gifts! Do you know what size corks you used for the wine toppers? I’m finding a lot of options but want to get the ones that will work best!

    Thanks,

  • Great idea. Cork crafts are cool. My mum made a brilliant pin-board from wine corks she saved over years – it looked amazing!

  • I love using wine corks for crafts. I make Wine Cord Reindeer ornaments every year.

  • AH! These are too adorable and so easy. I will definitely be gifting these for the holidays. Thanks for always posting such fun ideas!

  • This is so cute! I have always loved the cork art- this is just adorable! All the best Elsie

  • I love your DIY projects. The Red Velvet team always comes up with the most fabulous things!! 🙂

  • Oh oh! I have a huuuge bag of corks! I’m thinking the bathmat and trivets! I am also thinking of making big monogram letters (there are tutorials on pinterest) to give away as gifts out of them. I used to make stamps from corks in high school and had a whole set of letter stamps- uppercase and lowercase. Yay!

  • Those thread wine corks are so cute! I’m definately going to start saving corks for a bath mat. It’s a shame, I find more and more wine bottles now having screw tops rather than cork.

  • Yay for wine cork projects! I just did a cork board for our kitchen that I’m so proud of. (see it here if you like! http://thevillagehaberdashery.co.uk/blog/2011/wine-cork-board)
I just can’t seem to throw them away, especially now they’re so hard to come by.

  • Great ideas! It’s a shame over here (not sure if it’s the same in the U.S.) you see cork less and less – the majority of wines (especially at the cheaper end of the scale) come with a screw top. Apparently the cork industry is a pretty eco-friendly, sustainable one, so it’s good to support it!

  • Sweet! Thank you for sharing…pinning!
