Like a lot of you out there, I spend a good portion of my time wishing I had an iced coffee in my hands. I started buying cold brew coffee this summer and it’s a great base to use for lots of cold coffee confections.
I was making myself a simple iced coffee recently and I noticed that I had some chocolate almond milk in the fridge and decided to make my coffee with that instead.
Once I poured that in, I realized that a touch of coconut would also be delicious and the chocolate/coconut combo would make my basic coffee into a fabulous drink of German chocolate cake—yum!
German Chocolate Cake Iced Coffee, serves one
1/2 cup cold brew coffee
1/2 cup unsweetened chocolate milk or almond milk
2 teaspoons coconut syrup
2 teaspoons chocolate syrup (like Hershey’s syrup)
coconut flakes and honey for rim (optional)
To make your coconut rim, squirt some honey on a small plate and dip the rim of your glass in the honey. On a separate plate, sprinkle some fine coconut and place your sticky rim into the coconut shavings.
Add some ice to your glass and pour in your milk, coconut syrup, and chocolate syrup.
Pour your cold brew coffee on top, stir, and enjoy!
Let me tell you, this is de-licious! It’s such a fancy sweet treat that is so simple to make, so it would be really easy to make several at once for company as well.
I really love the whole chocolate/coconut combination, but adding it into coffee also gives it a whole new flavor dimension. Hope you enjoy this sip of heaven as well! xo. Laura

This sounds so delicious. It reminds me of the German Chocolate hot chocolate I get at Dutch Bros when I visit my sister in Oregon!
Even though we now make our own cold brew (and save tons of money doing it) I never thought of finding a way to make the german chocolate flavoring at home.
Thanks for the inspiration. 🙂
OMG!! This looks super delicious!!! YUM!
I don’t drink coffee anymore, but if I did, I’d be all over this.

it looks soooo yummy!!! but-being from germany-i’am wondering why its called “german cake”? 😉
At many bakeries and grocery stores in the United States, there is a popular cake called “German Chocolate Cake”. It’s very rich chocolate cake with a decadent coconut and pecan topping. It’s delicious, but probably as vague as the “French” in “French Fry!” 🙂
how interesting-and you’re right!
i don’t know any german cake like this. UNFORTUNATELY!!!!! 😉
Ha, they call chocolate cake with coconut icing a “German chocolate cake” here. It’s an American thing I think, not sure why!

Looks delicious! I know you’ve shared for your love of Seattle (I’m a Washingtonian), I was wondering if you’ve been to the Starbucks Roastery?
There’s one particular drink called the evergreen mule that made me think of you. It’s cold brew iced coffee, ginger beer, lemon juice, and burnt cinnamon syrup, served with an apple.
IT IS LAYERED& DELICIOUS.
And I’m sure would taste great with maybe Hedricks gin, or a lememcello? If you wanted to turn it into a cocktail.
Sharing in your mutual love for iced coffee/ toddy/ cold brew.
