How To Customize A Flask With Oil Cloth

Easiest DIY ever & such a fun gift idea!Hi friends! Today I want to share a super cute gift idea that literally only takes ten minutes to create. 10 minutes!!! The end result is adorable and doesn't even look homemade.

SuppliesSupplies needed: Stainless steel flask (I bought mine on Amazon), patterned oil cloth (Buy the smallest yardage you can as you'll only need a small piece. I found a great selection of patterns here.), multi-surface glue (anything that can adhere to metal will work), and scissors.

ProcessAll you have to do is cut a rectangle of oil cloth to a size that fits around the flask, covering most of the height of the bottle. It's good for the oil cloth to overlap an inch or so on the back so it's extra secure.

My only problem with this project is figuring out which flask I want to keep and which ones I want to gift to friends. :)

Easiest DIY ever & such a fun gift idea! Flasks are great for basically any situation where you want to have the option to add a little whiskey or rum to your coke, but alcohol is not served. Hello movie theaters! Especially if my husband is dragging me to a horror movie, this flask will most certainly help to get me through it. Basically, a flask makes any hour a happy hour!

You'll just want to make sure you have a tiny funnel on hand to pour liquids into the flasks (makes it SO much easier).

Gift ideas: This would be an adorable gift for a bachelorette party, birthday, a hostess gift, and stocking stuffer. You could even make a coordinating set for a new couple! I love that it's so easy to customize them for different personalities and styles.

Easiest DIY ever & such a fun gift idea! Happy crafting + happy Presidents' Day! xo. Elsie

  • Over the years, I’ve always tried to make sure that my gifts are unique. While i was searching the web for personalized gift boxes I came across Unique Custom Products in Colorado. They personalize just about anything! For my dad’s birthday, I got him a custom made wooden box so that he could store all his valuable baseball cards. I even engraved his name on it and a picture of us from when i was little! I was able to get it done on short notice before his birthday at a really good price. Check them out at

  • This is a great idea and a wonderful way to give an amazing custom gift that doesn’t cost a ton of money. There are a lot of ways to customize regular day items to dazzling pieces of art. I love this blog and hope my Rhinestone website can be used in one of these great projects.

  • there is no alcohol sold in movie theaters in the us? that’s the saddest thing i’ve ever heard.

  • I’ve hot glued some of my air plants to different objects for display( sea shell, drift wood, toys, etc)

  • Elsie! These are awesome! I have a question… How do you get your pictures that have the Beautiful Mess app symbols to be so clear? Is there a way to save it as a larger size? I really love the app and love posting pictures to the LOLLY project with it! Thanks!

  • What a fantastic idea! There are so many possibilities with this project! I have a few girlfriends that would love a personalized flask with pizzazz.

  • Ha! The movie theater comment made me laugh. I was gifted a flask similar to this a while ago, but I love the idea of making your own! The floral one is so cute.

    5′ DIY and you’re done 😉
    A fashion & DIY blog…

  • What a cute idea. I don’t drink alcohol, but I will most definitely try this on my water bottle. I love the personal feel to it.

  • The idea for a customized flask is great itself and I really like your props for gift ideas, but what bothers me is your text on flasks itself and spiking drinks etc. I have nothing against alcohol (am a drinker myself) but no need to say such things out loud.

  • These are adorable! How well does the oil cloth/ glue combination hold up if it gets wet? Do you need to keep the outside dry when rinsing the flask out?

  • oh you drunkie!!!!! ahaha love it!!! actually I saw one some time ago and thought about buying it!!! now I have an excuse!!! Plus I love your drinks and cocktails!!!

  • I love this idea! I want to make these for all of my girlfriends for gifts! What size flask did you buy, Elsie? Thanks for the great idea!!
