I don't know about you, but I have a bit of a purse problem. I have everything I could ever possibly need for the next year shoved into my purse, and all the snacks, hand lotion, and miscellaneous candy (that was usually put there by my husband) can sometimes leave a bit of a mess on poor innocent bystander items- like my sunglasses. I usually have to wipe some sort of crumbs off my sunnies before I put them on, so it seemed like a leather sunglasses case to protect my shades was in order. Here's what I did:
Supplies: Thin leather (real or faux) in two different colors, leather glue, fabric scissors, 1/2" magnetic snap.
1. Cut a paper template that is 8.5 x 4 inches. Trace two of the rectangles onto the wrong side of your main color of leather and cut them out. 2. Using your second leather option, cut out your accent shape for the front of your pouch. 3. Use the leather glue to glue your leather shape onto the front side of one of your outside leather panels (glue the shape off center so it will be centered once the pouch is complete). Sew around the edge of the accent shape for extra hold. 4. Next, you'll want to attach the magnetic snaps. With the center of your snap about 3/4" inch away from the top of your main panels, push the prong side of the snaps face down onto the leather so that an indent appears. Use an X-Acto knife to make two small slits in the leather where the two indents are so you can push the prongs through to the other side (make sure the magnetic sides are on the right side of the leather). Slide the silver backings onto the prongs on the wrong side of the leather, and push the prongs flat. 5. Fold the top of each leather panel so that the magnetic sides are now facing inward, and sew straight across the bottom of the fold to secure. 6. Place your leather panels together with the right sides facing inward, and glue the outside edges together while leaving the top open (gluing the leather is easier than trying to pin it together). Once the glue is dry, sew around the edges with a 1/4" seam allowance, and round the bottom edges as you sew so it's easier to turn inside out. 7. Flip your pouch the right way out and you have a new home for your sunnies!I can already tell that this is going to keep my sunglasses cleaner and make them much easier to find in my purse than they were before. Plus, it makes a great gift idea too. Think of all the different designs you could do on the front: hearts, stripes…cats! Oh man, I guess I have a few more to make! xo. Laura
