Lipstick Art Inspiration

Lipstick Art DIYI love Valentine's Day! In the spirit of all things lovey-dovey I got inspired to make a fun piece of art for our bedroom… using lipstick! I have been pinning lipstick prints (on my valentine board) like crazy for the past few weeks. I love the simple visual statment that kiss prints can make. So pretty, feminine and personal.Making lipstick art… it's fun!First, cut a piece of white cardstock slightly larger than your frame or matte size. Go to town with lipstick + kisses! This step is slightly embarassing, but also really fun.Elsie's favorite lipstick colorsThese are all the lipsticks I used, a few of my favorites!Lipstick ArtLipstick Art by A Beautiful MessNext, just frame your kiss print and personalize it with a note on the back. There you have it… instant, personal artwork for your bedroom!Sign the back of the frame! What do you think? Is this something you would enjoy in your home? What are your Valentine's plans? I think we are going to take a little weekend trip to celebrate and relax. xo. Elsie

I think they’re sexy and artsy at the same time.

    Which Shade is Your Kiss?:

  • that is actually the cutest thing ever! but it’d probably make me seem a tad obsessive if I gave it to someone haha would love to try it though! x

  • Love this! This goes definately on my to do list!

  • This is absolutely awsome! I want a boyfriend right now… Well, wait, I think I´ll just make one of these anyway, and have it in my living room. Sooo cool! THanks for the inspiration!

  • Just made this for my boyfriend who I only see on weekends as we live 3 hours apart. Now he can take home my ‘kisses’. Thank you for this great post!

  • Love love love this idea! Doing this for Valentine’s Day 🙂

  • I luv this idea… what a great valentines gift for cheap but from the heart or the lips 😉

  • my fiance and i have a tradition of giving each other diy valentine’s day gifts. i really dislike how commercial the day has become…diy to the rescue! i absolutely love this idea…it’s so personal and so much fun… i will be “borrowing” this one for sure! 😉

  • So sweet… with a little sexy mixed in. I really like the revlon lip butters! I want to try the maybelline whispers, which I’ve heard are very similar.

something about red lips for valentines day right!?

  • Love the idea. Not big on valentines day, but I think my husband will enjoy the print:)

  • made me think of this artist…. so amazing!!!

  • That is so great! A weekend away sounds like a good plan, too.

Our Valentine’s Day tradition is pretty silly…we go eat at Waffle House. It sounds real classy, huh? We just think it’s funny to get all dolled up and go eat waffles. 🙂

  • love this! you consistently have such cute ideas!
can you tell me what white marker you used for the back? have been struggling to find multi-surface white paint markers or the like.

  • Alison-
Just checked it out & you are right! I am surprised I didn’t see that on Bloglovin or something. But oh well, it happens. :))

  • AWESOME idea! i just bought the revlon candy apple lipstick and i have been loving it too.

  • That is such a brilliant idea! Perf for Valentines x

  • Aw, this is such a cute idea for a loved one. It looks very chic with the thick white matting around the picture. I only have two shades of lipstick – a bold red and a light pink… but two different lipsticks on a print like this would still work, right?

  • Love this! Such a cute idea and a great piece of art for any room 🙂

    Lulu xx

  • Can I just say that….I totally went and bought the revlon lip butters you used here. I bought red velvet and candy apple. And they are both lovely colors, of course! 🙂

  • I love this idea! My best friend would get a kick out of this!

  • I love the idea of framing it…very cute! You might like this…notes sealed with your embossed kiss…

  • I absolutely love this–what a simple, yet chic idea to brighten up a home!

  • This is great! I would definitely hang this in my room or powder room!

  • this is such an adorable idea!
great for valentine’s day, too 🙂

  • I love the idea! it’s so original! it could be on a smaller card than your boyfriend can keep! anyways its so lovely!

  • I’m throwing a Wine and Cheese party at my house on the 16th. I’m not sure what my boyfriend and I are doing on Valentine’s day. He’s not really into celebrating holidays so much, but I am.. so he does stuff for me anyway. 🙂 he’s nice.

  • Such a cute idea!! I’ll have to check out your pinterest board to see some other ideas…never thought of this before 😉

    xx Ashleigh

  • My mom just made a print like that last week!
I’ll have to show her your version, she’ll love it!

  • Cute! I’d love to make one, but I’m not sure Boyfriend would appreciate to have something like this up on the wall… But maybe I shouldn’t give him a choice 🙂

  • This is really cute? Have you ever seen people each kiss a piece of paper and sign it as a gift? My friend had us do it for her birthday last week and wants to do it for me for my wedding shower. It’s really cute. Instagram here:

My other lipstick art obsession is this Reiko Kaneko mug with a print that looks like lipstick on the rim: OBSESSED! I tried to create it with Sharpie on a kissy-print stamp, but the sharpie wasn’t wet enough, so I used regular ink, but baking it didn’t set it like it does the sharpie. I’m still toying with the process, thinking about varnishing over the ink, but what varnish would be food safe…? Haven’t figured it all out yet. But, it looks cute, don’t you think? –

  • What a great idea!! If you dont mind, I’m going to use it to send a card for my boyfriend that is overseas. :3 Happy Valentines Day for you ^^

  • Sarah- we probably will not post a DIY on our bike wall because, while it works well for us, we’re not sure how safe it is (for people with children etc!) There is really no way for us to test that and we just don’t feel comfortable recommending DIY, even though it worked great for us. If it wasn’t properly attached to the studs in the wall it could seriously injure someone…

I would recommend buying a kit (amazon, etsy, ebay etc…) and having a professional install it!
    XOXO- elsie

  • Oscar Wilde’s tomb in the Pere LaChaise cemetery in Paris is covered in lipstick kisses. It’s quite something. Have a look here…

  • This is by far the cutest and most creative idea- I LOVE it! Thank you for sharing!! =]

  • This is a great idea! I love how personalized it is! xx

  • This looks great!

Can you post a DIY for the mounted bikes you have on everyday elsie sometime? I have a really narrow hallway so having my bike there is a total pain and mounting it on the wall would be a super solution but not sure how to go about it!

  • oh GOSH! What an amazing idea. I love love this

  • Love this! I saw it as a fun bachelorette party favor for the bride to be – have all the girls at your party give a kiss and then frame it. So cute!!

  • Oh that is toooo cute! Perfect for valentines day!

    Juliette Laura

  • What a fantastic and simple idea. I might trying making cards like this, although I am not sure if I have enough bright lipsticks. I guess this is a good excuse to try out some fun bright lippys.

  • That lamp is indeed amazing, love it! Such a lovely present to your guy, Elsie, so original. 😉

  • I’ve seen a lot of these around lately, but always thought they look a bit…common and boring. However, your framing makes all the difference. Love the big frame and monochrome colours. And the note is just the cutest thing!
