Today we wanted to share a cute idea for organizing your kitchen spices. With every new recipe we end up collecting a new spice or two. Having all these options available is perfect for adventurous cooking but it can leave your kitchen cabinets looking cluttered! We decided to make our new spice storage magnetic so it could adhere to the side of a refrigerator, and we found these cute clear containers so you can easily see how much of each spice you have on hand.

what a lovely idea
i like it so much
Bought everything, glued on the magnet paper, I was so happy until I put in the garlic salt and low and behold it slid down the stainless steel, to heavy for the paper. I went looking for magnets and found the cost was crazy, but not for the ceramic ones. Now my garlic salt stopped slidding. Thanks for the link for the containers.
What is that black “paper” that you put on the back of the containers? And wha did u stick them on
this is so cute, and quite brilliant!

I bought magnet paper from Hobby Lobby but it didn’t come with an adhesive and it wasn’t strong enough. What was the magnet product you used?
Are the lids on these containers secure? You aren’t worried about them accidentally opening. Hobby Lobby had some but the clear part of the lids were plastic. Not sure I really trust those.
I absolutely ADORE your blog!
I’m about to move into my own first home, and I already have so many decorating ideas from your blog alone!
The step-by-step pictures are a HUGE PLUS, thanks for making DIYs simple and fun~
What a lovely idea.!
What a great idea!!
My husband loves to go out to sea on your little boat. I love to cook, as does he, but taking food and spices with us isn’t easy when every once of storage has to be put to good use. I wonder if something like this would work out at sea?
Hi! I love what you’ve done with these spices! I am doing something similar but can’t decide b/w clear top lids or screw top. In your opinion, are these lids tight enough to keep your spices fresh? Or, after having used them a while, would you prefer a tighter grip?
Another blogger suggested putting masking tape around the rim to tighten the seal. http://kitchentablescraps.com/storage-and-organization/magnetic-spice-rack/

Where did you get the sheets of magnetic paper? Do the magnetic sheet backs stick well on the metal tins? Did you do any prep on the metal tins to make it stick better? I’m going to try this! Can’t wait to gather everything to start. Thanks for the great instructions.
I ordered the exact same containers from where you recommended on Sunday. I just got an email a few hours ago letting me know they shipped! I am moving to the state next door (Alabama) next weekend and am really looking forward to a fun project once I get settled in to make me happy and my new house more homey. Thank you so much! I am a new reader and absolutely love your home!!
Just wondering, do you have to put a magnetic paint under the chalkboard paint when doing a fridge?
The oil in the cloves will soften the plastic and some of the other spices may react poorly to the containers too. I can’t remember which ones I had to toss after about 6 months.
Brilliant idea. I’m definitely gonna try this myself. Thanks, Elizabeth
wow! great idea!!! so smart and simple!
