Our Spooky Village

I’m so excited to share our Spooky Village with you again this year (here’s last year’s). We decided to add one house to it this year, which I’ll share below!

First, let me quickly summarize how we made the houses!

Each of our houses are birdhouses which you can find at craft stores as well as dozens of cute options here. First, I sketched out ideas in my notebook—there are SO many cute ideas you can come up with for different types of shops and town “amenities,” haha. I started off with a few designs and then let Nova take the reign on two houses last year—augh! They are SO cute.

Anyway, 99% of these houses are just craft paint. This year we also added a ton of googly eyes.

So basically, you can probably just buy a birdhouse and then use stuff you ALREADY HAVE to start your village! It’s a great activity to do with little kids. Not only are they fun to make, but our kids also play with them (as toys!) almost every day.

Here’s the new house. We had so much fun making this! Since we used regular (Elmer’s) glue, we had to do one side one day and then wait for them to dry. So it took a while and Nova loved doing it!

These are my personal favorites. Which one is your favorite??

If you make a spooky village, please tag us on Instagram so we can see!!!!

I love Halloween SO MUCH and I hope you are having a fun season too. xx- Elsie

  • This is such an adorably cute idea! I will have to bookmark this for next year ♥

  • We did these last year but went monochrome and dark. I love that the littles can get in on this too. Here are ours: https://scratchandstitch.com/diy-halloween-decorations-haunted-birdhouses/

  • Ummmm. My favorite? Is Nova’s! Or was it a sisterly collaboration? Although the more “polished” ones are adorable, that one is the best memory-keeper!
My son is Nova’s age and loves Halloween, which I have hated forever! So I’m trying to find cute/spooky ways to celebrate and these totally fit the bill!

  • The Book shop is adorable. What a fun DIY project for Halloween.

  • It’s a little late in the game, but I think I’m taking my toddler to michaels and we’re going to do this today! I love it! And I love that they can play with them through the season.

  • Oh, it looks not only spook but even a little bit cute 🙂
