Kinsey’s Easy ReStyled Fall Backpack

6a00d8358081ff69e2017ee4a4e153970d-800wiI've been in the mood for some new fall wardrobe pieces, so I decided to make my own! I stitched this little backpack from a lined men's plaid shirt I thrifted. Here's how: Backpack collageSupplies: Plaid button up shirt, scissors, sewing machine lace ribbon or thin rope.

1. Begin by cutting off the sleeves, neckline, and (depending on the size of the backpack) the botton of the shirt. Stitch up the sides and bottom so that it creates a bag. 2. Next, create a loop on the top of the back with both ends open so that you can thread some type of ribbon or rope ribbon through. We used a lace ribbon for our backpack. Once you've thread the ribbon through, flip the back right side out. 3. With the remaining fabric from the sleeves, sew two straps that are roughly 20×2 inches. 4. Lastly, stitch them to the backpack by attached the two top ends on top of one another and the other ends on opposite sides.Backpack collageBackpack collagexoxo. Kinsey

  • So cute! I’m gonna have to make one! Also, I LOVE the sweater. Please let me know where I can get one!

  • Great ideas here. I really like the lace pockets skirt and the plaid shirt with elbows.

  • Hey Emma and Elsie this is totally out of topic but I’d really like to know what incentives you give your team. Do they get paid? Or do they willingly contribute their talent and time? I have a small business and friends help me from time to time but I don’t know how to pay them or how to ‘thank’ them. Please I need your insights on this,I know It’s a bit personal but I think a lot of people would want to know. Thanks!

  • Very fun. I’m a sucker for cute bags. Lovin plaid for fall.

  • Welp, that’s the cutest thing I ever did see. I personally, would have had a hard time cutting into that bad boy…

    But kuddos to Kinsey!

  • I am going to make this for my daughter (who is in college) for Christmas. She will be “wow”d”! Off the subject, I would love to know where Elsie got her red mary jane shoes that I see in some pictures. I am kinda obsessed with them!

  • Great restyling!
I looking for a backpack, maybe i must look in my closet for old clothes!

  • Oh you make it look so easy! That’s really cool idea. I would change the strap by leather strap to make it longer and more “hipster” 😀

  • This is a genious idea! And cheaper than buying a new bag, esp if you already have an old shirt/jacket you dont wear anymore.

  • Such a fantastic idea! This is a great way to save money too, since uniquely patterned backpacks can be so expensive.

  • This is such a good idea! I’m trying to wear backpacks instead of shoulder bags so that my back doesn’t get so sore (that makes me sound so old) and I’d love to make this to put my books in 🙂

  • It looks so cute and it’s such a clever idea! I would have never come up with it, thanks for sharing!

  • I’m a total backpack girl. They are just so much more comfortable, better for your back, and super for bike rides when compared to over-the-shoulder bags (oh, and they don’t wedge into your boobs either!).
    I love this 🙂
