Maybe it’s the forever kid in me, but I just can’t resist a good Halloween food item. Treats shaped like spiders and cobwebs are just too cute to pass up, and I like to make something every year that is fun and goes along with the Halloween spirit. We partnered with Kinky Beverages this year to make a jello shot for my treat and after contemplating a few ideas, the thought of a slightly spooky eyeball shot seemed like the perfect way to go!

1/2 cup Kinky Pink Liqueur
1/2 cup pink or red berry flavored juice
1/2 cup Ricura Horchata Cream Liqueur
1/2 cup milk
2 packets of unflavored gelatin
6 shot glasses
clean, new small paintbrush
red food coloring
small semicircle silicone molds
First, warm your fruit juice over medium heat and slowly sprinkle in one packet of unflavored gelatin, whisking as you pour. Allow the gelatin to fully melt (and don’t let your juice come to a boil).
Add in your Kinky Pink Liqueur and stir. Pour your pink mixture evenly into 6 shot glasses and place in fridge to set.
Next, warm your milk over medium heat and repeat the process of slowly pouring in a gelatin packet while whisking until the gelatin is fully dissolved. Add in your Horchata liqueur and pour into silicone semicircle molds. You’ll get enough to make a lot more semicircles than you need, so you can either cut the recipe for this part in half or just have some extras in case some of your eyeballs don’t come out of the mold as cleanly as you would like. Place in the fridge to set.
Use a knife to cut off just a bit of the top of your semicircle mound so your candy eye has a flat place to sit. Transfer your eyeball onto the top of your jello shots. Take a new paintbrush and some red food coloring and paint some red bloodshot veins onto your eyeball (just pretend you are painting tree branches and that’s basically what they look like!). Place your candy eye on top of your eyeball and you’re ready to serve! You can also do the painting step right before the party and put them back in the fridge for a bit to stay chilled. Serve with tiny spoons so your guests can dig all the spooky goodness out of the glass!
How fun is that?! The mango, blood orange and passion fruit flavors of the Kinky Pink pair really well with the berry juice and the little bit of creamy horchata flavor on top makes it taste like a delicious tropical smoothie.
These shots are a great way to add a spooky-but-cute Halloween treat to your holiday party (although if you want them extra spooky you could do them in these skull shot glasses), and are sure to be one that your guests will remember for sure! Eye guarantee it! xo. Laura
