Bernardo NY Faux Sherling Jacket
$169
The ’70s are calling to be added to your coat collection!
Plush faux shearling will keep you warm this winter and we love the rugged look of this oversized coat with on-trend appeal.
The oversized look gives you lots of room for layering underneath, and the large pockets in front will be handy for keeping items close as well as decorative.
How to choose the best coat for you:
- Consider your climate for warmth level: Are you usually buried in five feet of snow each winter and in need of some serious warmth or are your winters more mild so a heavy jacket will do?
Choosing a coat that will either keep up with your snowfall (hoods are a good idea for inclement weather) or allow you to layer to vary your warmth as needed will be helpful in finding the best coat for you. - Keep moisture in mind: Typical weather and activity level will also determine how waterproof you want a coat to be.
Lots of snow (or skiing and snowboarding trips) will mean a higher level of waterproofing while an occasional rain or light snow won’t need much protection against water. - Choose the care level for washing: Are you OK with taking a special coat to the dry cleaners now and then? Won’t do dry cleaning but will hand wash something you love? Or do you want it all to go in the washer with your regular clothes?
Make sure to notice the care instructions on a coat before you buy so you aren’t committing to a level of care that you won’t really keep up with. - Size up according to typical layering: If you like to wear bulky sweaters or lots of layers in the winter, consider sizing up to accommodate the extra fabric.
Since the oversized look is trendy right now, you can totally get away with a little extra room for whatever layering you want and still not feel overstuffed.
As you can see, there are so many cute options for every budget to keep you warm this winter. Are you more of a puffer or a faux fur kind of coat lover? Which is your fave? xo. Laura
I have to say down is still awesome. Obviously, it’s better if it’s ethically sourced (there’s a RDS certification), but it is still the lightest for the weight. Also, it is not made from plastic. My no favorite sources—-
Patagonia (has a lifetime repair guarantee AND will buy back used gear)
Eddie Bauer (haven’t checked recently but I think it has a variety of sizes)
LL Bean (petite & plus sizes! Yay! Very generous return policy.)
I mean “warmest” for its weight!
Would love to see some more body-inclusivity in these coats. Plus-size women get cold, too. Some cute styles here, but it would be helpful to see how some of them look on larger bodies. Featuring a couple more brands whose sizing goes above an XL would be great as well.
I feel like the ABM team explicitly considered this – I counted at least 4-5 options where they highlighted “inclusive sizing” options. I’m not sure what more they can do, as they are using the images provided by the clothing manufacturers.
Totally love this new layout for reviewing each product. The clickable images are great too but really appreciated this set up!
