Tips for Making Two Toned Drinks

Multicolored drinkMulticolored drinks can be a fun little quirk for dinner parties or get-togethers. You can create these pretty beverages with or without alcohol; using any colors/flavors you like!

Two toned drinkThis drink has grape juice on the bottom later and tonic water on top. One important thing to keep in mind when you are creating multi layered drinks is the density of your liquids. Whatever liquid is the most dense must go on the bottom. As a general rule carbonated liquids are lighter and can more easily float on top.

Two toned cocktailThis drink is 2 parts blueberry juice to one part pink lemonade vodka (it's a very girlie drink!). A little trick I learned as I was layering these drinks is to add in your ice, then pour in your first liquid. Then hold a spoon just above the first layer of liquid, gently pour your second liquid over the spoon so it fills the spoons and gently spills over into the drink. This will help the beverage keep its layered colors better.

  • christin, I was thinking the same thing! My mother taught me to do it over the back of the spoon…the layers are so distinct that way. I grew up helping her around the bar and learned the tricks of the trade.

  • Love multi-coloured drinks 🙂 It works even better if you let your more syrupy drink trickle over the back of your spoon very slowly. Makes great layered shots.
