Feeling very pregnant lately—which I type with both joy and also as a complaint. I do love feeling my son wiggle around in my belly. This is the very beginning stages of getting to know him. But I’m also at the stage where it’s difficult to find a comfortable way to sit or sleep and I have to get up to pee about 4x a night. Also nothing fits, so I’m down to rotating the same five outfits, which is again both a blessing and a curse in some ways.
I do love this phase of anticipation. It’s like the feeling you have before you go on a big, exciting trip. It’s excitement mixed with a little anxiety, but mostly it’s knowing you’re about to embark on an adventure. This adventure will look like tired me at home for months trying to remember baby stuff again. But it’s a special time and we feel confident this will be our last child, so knowing that makes it all the more sweet. Anyway, here are 10 things I’ve been loving lately.
1. This white waffle dress I wore in these photos is so comfy. I will certainly keep wearing it after maternity days are over.
2. I’m currently listening to Project Hail Mary. I generally like science fiction but this book truly RULES. It’s so fun, well-written, immediately engaging and makes me feel like I understand science (which, I don’t so you know it’s just great writing). I will for sure be reading more Andy Weir in the future.
3. We recently bought this juicer and now our weekends are filled with juice “experiments” with our toddler. It’s fun and so far not a bad way to get him to try new flavors (we normally don’t give him juice, only water, but this feels like a good exception).
4. I’ve decided to take the plunge and buy a Kindle. I generally prefer paper books when I read, as I just like turning the pages and have them on my shelves. BUT I decided an eReader would be better for this upcoming newborn/nursing phase since balancing books with one hand over a newborn’s head can be a little precarious. I’m sure I’ll appreciate it when I travel in the future too, or I may give it to my niece after a while if it’s just not for me. We’ll see.
5. Recently bought myself two new pairs of eyeglasses. I got these gold and clear ones as well as these fun lavender ones.
6. I cannot currently tie tennis shoes, I’m slip-ons only for a few months here. Lol. But I really want a pair of these and may just buy them now to save for later this summer.
7. We are 99% set on our son’s name, so I am thinking I’ll ask for this Etsy ring with his name engraved on it for Mother’s Day to match the “Oscar” ring I wear everyday with my wedding and engagement bands.
8. This past week, I got a facial at The Only Facial and really liked it. I went to the one in my city (Springfield, MO), but I noticed they have a number of locations other places as well. I don’t get facials often but it was a nice treat to myself.
9. I’ve gotten obsessed with bubble tea again. 🙂 I usually make Taro milk tea but sometimes I blend the taro powder with water instead of milk for a lighter version. It’s kind of like Taro lemonade with boba.
10. This maternity photo is part of a shoot I did with Elise Abigail Photography and I love them so much.
Also about to have baby #4 like another poster. I am a Kindle lover. I get so many books from the library through Libby. At this stage in my life I’m just happy I’m reading even if it’s not through hard copy books. I have had my same kindle paper white for 11 years and it’s still going strong. But a couple years ago I got this strap for it and especially with nursing its a game changer. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XOQOT1S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
So excited for you and your sweet baby boy!! I’m about to have a baby boy in the next month or so, too 🙂
I have loved my Kindle during this pregnancy and am looking forward to using it during the newborn/nursing haze. I get very sick while pregnant, so it was a lifesaver while I had literally no energy for holding a book/turning pages but desperately needed to keep my mind occupied!
Congrats on choosing a name too – we are still so undecided it’s not even funny! This will be our 4th baby so it’s been tough picking something that we like, that also fits in with the names of our other kids. Can’t wait to hear your son’s name!
Congrats!!!!!
The Kindle saved me while breastfeeding! I never wanted one either, but after trying to balance a book while breastfeeding at 3am, I ordered one and it was the best decision!! I actually looked forward to feeds because I knew the kindle was waiting for me. 🙂
Your maternity photos are so dreamy, Emma.
I have one of those rings for each of my daughters and wear them in place of a wedding band with my Granny’s engagement ring that I inherited. They are my favorite jewelry that I own!
My Kindle was my #1 must-have nursing accessory! So much easier to wrangle than a paper book, and so much pleasanter to read on than a phone. You can use your library card to borrow Kindle books for free. Project Hail Mary is one of my all-time favorites, because to pick up The Martian next if you haven’t already read it.
Congratulations on your pregnancy! I have a Kindle Paperwhite and I love it.
I loved Project Hail Mary. Andy Weir also wrote The Martian, which was great. I didn’t care for his second book as much (Artemis, I think?), but that could just be me. I didn’t find the main character as engaging as those in his other books.
If you haven’t read it yet, do check out Seveneves. Amazing science fiction. It’s a big book, so a little intimidating, but as soon as I finished I went back and read it again.
