Parker House Rolls are a classic recipe that was created by the Parker House Hotel. If you don't believe me, just google "parker house rolls" and be prepared to see many variations on this seemingly specifically named recipe. That's because they are famous, dude. Told you so. Geez. I've made these a few times, and I love them. I think it's because they are made with milk, so they are just a little bit sweet. They are often made by flattening the dough and folding it over into a kind of crescent moon. But I just went with the ol' indent down the middle. Oh, and I added a little rosemary. I added rosemary to a lot of Friendsgiving recipes. I COULDN'T STOP.Rosemary Parker House Rolls, makes 15-18 rolls. Recipe (slightly) adapted from here.
Needed: 3 tablespoon warm water, 3 tablespoons sugar, 2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast, 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, 1 cup whole milk, 2 teaspoons finely chopped rosemary, 2 cups bread flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons salt and 1 1/2 cups flour.
In a small bowl stir together the warm water, 1 tablespoon sugar and the yeast. Set aside for 5 minutes. In the meantime stir together the flours and salt. In a small pot melt the butter and add the milk and rosemary until warm. Combine the yeast mixture, milk mixture and flour mixture. I used my stand mixer to knead the dough for about 6 minutes until elastic like. Form a ball and place in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover and allow to rise for 1 hour. Now divide into 15-18 balls (or crescent moons if you're being all traditional). Place in a buttered baking dish, cover and allow to rise for another 45 minutes. Bake at 375°F for 20-25 minutes.
I baked mine the day before and simply rewarmed them in the oven for 6-7 minutes then brushed with a little butter before serving. Making your yeasted bread a day before a big event can really make your day go smoother, as you won't have to allow for all the proper rising time. Just saying. xo. Emma
Even though these looked good, they were a dry, dense tasteless roll. Nothing pleasant about them. Plus the directions did not say whether you should leave space between them when placing them in the buttered dish or should put them sis-by-side. I had to look up another Parker-house rolls recipe to figure that out.
I made these for our tiny family Thanksgiving, and they were a huge hit! Even with my mom, who typically won’t eat bread with dinner 🙂
I just made these and they are SO delicious! Thanks for the recipe!
I’m am making these for my first friendsgiving right now! Since I don’t have to make the entire meal, these are a great homemade contribution. This is my first time making bread that other people (besides my boyfriend & I) are actually going to eat! Thanks for the inspiration. 🙂
I just got finished kneading & it’s rising. But via your recipe, I’m left with 2 tablespoons sugar. What was I supposed to do with those?!?!
Rolls are probably my favorite part about Thanksgiving! I love putting some leftover turkey in leftover rolls with some Ranch! Yum! But really, I love rolls… I will miss my Gramma’s rolls this year since I won’t be home for the holidays, but I still get rolls! Mmmm. I can’t wait!
This looks delish!

Yum, can’t wait to bake these on Sunday, just right for this time of year.
En España se llaman bollos preñados. Se pueden rellenar con bacon, queso, etc.
Thank you for sharing.
Mmmmm… Looks so good.

Haha you crack me up, but I’m that way with fresh herbs too. You always have to buy so much (if you aren’t lucky enough to have an herb garden) and I hate wasting it. But who doesn’t love a week full of basil dinners, or a rosemary Friendsgiving???
