Spicy Mango Michelada

Spicy Mango MicheladaHave you ever had a Michelada? If you love a good Bloody Mary, you will go nuts over this savory Mexican cocktail. The first time I ever had one was at my favorite local Mexican restaurant and I’ve been hooked ever since. They are lighter in flavor than the traditional Bloody Mary because instead of using a spirit, the base is a light beer. I love to mix sweet elements with savory ones, so I whipped up with this Spicy Mango Michelada just in time for all your summer parties.

Spicy Mango MicheladaSpicy Mango Michelada, serves 1

Mexican beer (I used Modelo)
1 ounce mango puree*
1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
1/2 ounce Worcestershire sauce
4-6 dashes of hot sauce
salt, for rimming
ancho chile pepper and lime wheel/wedge, for garnish

Spicy Mango Michelada*Mango Puree

2 ripe mangoes, peeled, pitted and cut into chunks
1/3 cup sugar
2-3 tablespoons water

Spicy Mango MicheladaFirst, make your mango puree. This can be made ahead of time for easy assembling if you’re entertaining. Combine mangoes, sugar, and water in a blender and puree until smooth. The mango puree is so easy to make and much more delicious to make fresh over buying packaged purees.

Spicy Mango MicheladaNow it’s time to assemble. The best part about Micheladas is how easy they are to put together. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of your glass and dip into salt. I used these adorable Bloody Mary pint glasses from Love & Victory. Next, add your lime juice, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce and mango puree to the glass. Stir this mixture with a spoon until it is smooth. Also, feel free to adjust the hot sauce to your preference. For me, nothing can be too spicy, so I tend to go a little heavy on the hot sauce.

Spicy Mango MicheladaFill your glass with ice and then top with your favorite light Mexican beer. Stir well and garnish with a dusting of ancho chile pepper and a lime wedge or wheel.

Spicy Mango MicheladaSpicy Mango MicheladaThis Spicy Mango Michelada is incredibly delicious, fruity, savory and so easy to make. I’ve always said that a Michelada was a beer all dressed up and a Bloody Mary all dressed down. It’s savory without being too heavy, hence why you can drink these all day (if that’s your sort of thing). 😉

Spicy Mango MicheladaNow go forth and enjoy your new favorite summer cocktail. It’s the perfect beverage to enjoy on a hot day, for your next BBQ, or even brunch.
