Dog Family Costumes – Chefs & Butter + Lobster

Just sharing our family’s costume this year. As many of you know, Trey and I have two dogs. Lovers (his full name is Love Love) is the pug and Steve is our fox baby (he was a rescue so we’re not sure of his breed). For whatever reason, I just thought it would be hilarious to dress Lovers up as a stick of butter. I was probably remembering how epic Kelly’s costume for Miley Cyrus was.

And once I decided that, I just planned the rest of the family’s costumes around it. I had planned to just buy everything as I’ve been super busy with the haunted holiday house project (full tour will be shared on Halloween!).

I had no problem finding stuff for our chef outfits and a lobster costume for Steve (although it’s a little big on him). But I didn’t have any luck finding a butter dog costume. Go figure. But it was super easy to make, so I thought I’d share.

While I was trying to find a dog butter costume to purchase, I did find one photo of a French bulldog in what looked liked a homemade butter costume. I’m not sharing the photo just because I couldn’t find the source and I don’t have permission, but if anyone does know the source please let me know in the comments because I’d love to link them!

I didn’t see a tutorial or if they shared anything about their dog butter costume, but if they did I’d love to share that here. But I didn’t have any luck, so I just made one up, and here’s what I did.

I saved a box that looked like it would fit my dog’s body perfectly and I cut off the bottom fourth. Then I painted it a butter yellow. Next, I added wax paper, to look like a wrapping. Then I printed the word “BUTTER” twice along with some little hash marks that could serve as the tablespoon measurements.

I fashioned mine to fit over the harness my dog wears with his leash. The box just has one piece of elastic stapled to the bottom to help hold it around him. That’s it! Very simple! You could probably figure it out just by looking at the photos.

I don’t know if we’ll actually do much with our dogs on Halloween, as we’ll both be at the haunted holiday house. But we’ll see. I will take any excuse to get photos with our dogs. Ha! Happy Halloween, everyone! xo. Emma
