Garlic Butter Pizza Crust

Garlic butter pizza crustConfession: I love Dominos pizza. Cheap delivery pizza is a pretty heavily debated topic at our office. We have a few Papa John's lovers, a couple of Dominos lovers and then one person who prefers Pizza Hut. We've been planning to have a blind folded pizza tasting night sometime. But I think we could also easily identify each one, even blind folded. And that just means that we order pizza too often.Garlic butter pizza crust recipe abeautifulmess.comAnyway, this is my attempt at making a slightly healtier version of Dominos pizza crust. It's still pizza, don't get me wrong. It's not exactly health food. BUT I would feel ok eating this once a week or so. And that's my test for, "how healthy is this food." It's basically, would I feel really guilty if I ate this every week. If not, then it's probably a pretty decent dinner option. But I'm (obviously) no health expert.A healthier version of dominos pizza crustGarlic Butter Pizza Crust, makes one large crust.

1 cup water
1/2 tablespoon sugar
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon fine grain sea salt
1/2 teaspoon dry oregano
1/2 tablespoon olive oil
4 tablespoons butter
1/2 tablespoon garlic salt How to proof yeastStir together the water and sugar. Pour the yeast over the water and give it a stir (no need to dissolve it). Let that sit for 5 minutes. It should bubble and get foamy, that means the yeast is alive and working.Pizza doughIn a bowl combine the flours, salt and oregano. Pour in the yeast mixture and oil. Stir until a dough ball forms (if you're using a stand mixer use the dough hook attachement). Knead for 5-6 minutes, until the dough becomes elastic-like. Place in a light greased bowl, cover and allow to rise for 1 1/2 hours.Homemade pizza doughRoll out on a lightly floured surface. Place on your baking sheet that has been lightly dusted with flour or cornmeal. Now here's the really important part: melt the butter and stir in the garlic salt. Brush the entire crust with the garlic butter mixture. Now bake at 400°F for 5 minutes. Brush with any remaining garlic butter and add your sauce, cheese and toppings. Bake for an additional 8-10 minutes until the cheese begins to bubble.Best homemade pizza recipe www.abeautifulmess.comI topped mine with a store bought sauce, mozzerella, tomatoes, basil and avocados. But you do your thing. xo. Emma

  • Do you always top pizza with avocado? I keep forgetting to try this, but can’t believe that I haven’t yet because avocado is my favorite food (and pizza is in the top 5!).

  • The recipe of pizza Dow making that is given in this blog is really amazing and I also agree with this that the pizza is the unhealthy food but I love to eat this and if you want to order the online pizza then takeaways is really best online food delivery site….

  • Dominoes is delicious though 🙂 They even have a gluten free option which makes me super happy. Would love to see your gluten-free homemade crust! This pizza looks delicious – would never have thought to put avocados on pizza!

  • Thank you so much for sharing! Ive been reluctent to make pizza crust from scratch and Im so glad I did! I made this last night and it was so good. Perfectly seasoned! • I actually tried this recipe out last night and made pizza for a movie night in with friends – was amazing! and they were well impressed that the crust was made from scratch – Used similar toppings to your suggestions as well (with the addition of sun dried tomatoes) was so yummy! can’t wait to try it again with different toppings!

  • Emma – this is, hands down one of the BEST pizza recipes everrrr. I tried it out a couple of days ago and just returned from the shop to make it again tonight. I added some feta cheese I had from another dish and three different kinds of tomato. So.freakin.delicious 🙂

  • Yum! This looks like it would taste amazing! I’ve never tried avocado on pizza before…

  • That looks totally delish and gourmet! One of these days I will tackle making my own pizza crust from scratch. I’ll bet it just tastes awesome.

  • Hey there 🙂
    I love pizza too (who doesn’t?!) 😉
But I always use honey instead of sugar, it changes the dough a bit, the colour is crispier and the taste is..heaven! Have you tried it? Once I went there, there was no coming back for me.

    Lot of love,
    Stefanie

  • I made a stuffed crust pizza tonight using this recipe. It was very good! Thanks, Emma! http://instagram.com/p/dasLciBpiP/

  • Could I do 3 1/2 AP flour? I’ve been dying for a homemade gluten-free crust but I can’t find any recipes that I can convert. 🙁

  • I love making my own pizza! Ever since I’ve discovered how much better (and healthier!) it is, I stopped ordering out.
I used to make my own dough, and sometimes still do, but I’ve discovered Trader Joe’s pizza dough and I’m hooked!!! And it’s only $1.19!!!

  • This sounds so tasty, all I need to buy is garlic salt! can’t wait pizza is my favourite food thanks for this Emma xx Emmi

  • I’m going to have to try this, the main reason I go for dominos is the stuffed crust – otherwise I’m a big fan of papa johns x

  • this looks outrageously simple and scrumptious!!! i like the idea of placing avocados on the pizza too!

  • Total Yumminess!!! I love a good homemade pizza, but when there’s no time for that I love, love a $5 Hot and Ready from Little Ceasars!! It’s the best $5 dollar pizza ever!! Lol!

garlic butter, what an awesome idea… !

  • This looks so delicious! Definitely a great way to spruce up a regular pizza dough!

  • oh man this looks SOO GOOD. I LOVE avocado on pizza. It’s THE BEST> especially from LA GRANDE ORANGE in PHOENIX>

  • looks ridiculously good. I got myself a pizza stone for the oven a few months ago, and that really brought homemade pizza to a whole different level. It’s like living in Italy. Well, almost…

  • oh that looks yummy, I do make my own pizza dough but never with garlic and butter. its sound like a clever idea to add all those flavors to the dough itself.. will try it this sunday itself..Thanks gals

  • Yumm! I love pizza and garlic bread. And a combination of the two can only be yummier!!

  • Dear Emma,

This recipe couldn’t have come on a better time! I have recently (about three months ago) gone vegan after being a vegetarian for five years and I have been craving pizza so much! Delivery pizza is without an exception made with cheese 🙁 I was looking for the perfect crust recipe and I will try this one out tonight! Thanks!

    Cheers from Holland

  • omg this looks just amazingly delicious! should not be viewed on an empty stomach though (just woke up ;)) sooo hungry now!
    Cheers

  • Oh YUM! Wish I’d had this recipe before me last night, when I attempted homemade pizza for the first time in awhile. Mine was not quite so successful :-/

  • I’ve always been picky with pizza simply because I grew up eating the REAL REAL STUFF! Argentinean pizza is just like Italian pizza and it’s so hard to beat. But now that I’m in the states I go with whatever I’m offered, and I have to say that yours looks pretty amazing and beautiful! Especially that cheese….:D Ps: I personally love papa john’s, but domino’s has been improving a lot!

  • Love this recipe. I’m a huge pizza lover and a dominos fan all the way.

  • I’m totally bookmarking this! I just posted about pizza yesterday and asked for any dough recommendations from readers because I’ve never made it from scratch! This is perfect! Thank you.

  • You should give Little Caesars a try-just make sure you ask for “crazy crust.” Melted garlic butter all over the entire pizza. Ridiculously unhealthy, but entirely worth it!

  • Homemade dough is 100x better than store bought, but pizza from Dominos is pretty good too! I think ours would be a winner because of the great toppings!

  • Sunday suppers to me are about cooking a soul-satisfying meal together: listening to music, gossiping, sipping wine while we cook a roast. I think we will have to change the roast to pizza this Sunday. Thank you for the inspiration!

  • I adore homemade pizza and this looks so delicious!

  • Om nom nom. This crust looks amazing! Avocado on pizza? Great idea!

  • Omg, dominoes pizza is probably the best, fricken thing ever (thinking back on my gluten free days). I finally found a good gluten-free pizza that is gooey, crusty, and tastes unhealthy, because honestly, as much as I love veggies, when you can’t eat pizza what you crave is the basics 😉 I’m going to try your recipe with some gluten free flour!

  • Wow – looks good and relatively easy. Thanks for sharing, will have to try this one… i LOVE pizza.

  • Yum! This recipe looks so so good! My husband is a major pizza lover, so this is on the list! 🙂

  • Haha I need to try your weekly test! That would make for a great lesson in curbing those food cravings!

  • This looks absolutely delicious! My dad sometimes makes homemade pizza and I love it. I’ll definitely want to show this recipe to him (or try it myself :), especially with the addition of avocados! Thank you 😀

  • Oh I’m a big lover of pizza and pizza crust and that crust looks absolutely delicious! I’m going to be giving this a try. Thank you! 🙂

  • I was shocked by how good Dominos was after they reinvented their recipe. I also liked their commercials where they basically admitted their pizza used to be really yucky.

  • Oh man oh man. I know exactly what I’m making for dinner tonight!

  • This looks so yummy!!!
We are madly in love with avocado and look for countless ways to include it in meals, so we’ll definitly try this.

  • WOW I never through about home making it I always just order pizza in with a special crust!

    http://secretsofahappygirl.blogspot.co.uk/

  • I send my girlfriend all too often into the kitchen to make us pizza, so I am definitely pinning this baby. 😉 Thanks for the share!

  • Wow, I love Domino’s too. Haven’t had it in forever now, but totally pinned this to try. Thanks!! 🙂

  • This looks delicious! I love ordering pizza too, but I actually find the crust to be a little too heavy. I’m looking forward to giving it a shot 🙂

  • My family has never really ordered pizza in, because we lived in a country where that was never a “thing ” like in America. We always made pizza ourselves though and now that I live alone, I make pizza almost every Friday for my cheat day. And what’s best, because I make it myself, it’s not even really unhealthy!

  • I definitely should try it out! Even though i don’t really like the garlic itself, i believe that in this recipe i’ll like it!:)

  • oooh my gosh this looks so delicious! Thank you so much for the recipe! xx

    www.joojoo-blog.blogspot.com

  • Oh my, this looks heavenly! Boyfriend is the pizza dough maker in this household…I think I might have to ask him to make this for our next pizza night!

  • This is SUCH a great idea and one that I am definitely going to try, I may even stick fold over the crust with massive amounts of cheese tucked in a la stuffed crust! I always take A LOT of inspiration from your blog xxxx
