Confession: I love Dominos pizza. Cheap delivery pizza is a pretty heavily debated topic at our office. We have a few Papa John's lovers, a couple of Dominos lovers and then one person who prefers Pizza Hut. We've been planning to have a blind folded pizza tasting night sometime. But I think we could also easily identify each one, even blind folded. And that just means that we order pizza too often.
Anyway, this is my attempt at making a slightly healtier version of Dominos pizza crust. It's still pizza, don't get me wrong. It's not exactly health food. BUT I would feel ok eating this once a week or so. And that's my test for, "how healthy is this food." It's basically, would I feel really guilty if I ate this every week. If not, then it's probably a pretty decent dinner option. But I'm (obviously) no health expert.
Garlic Butter Pizza Crust, makes one large crust.
1 cup water
1/2 tablespoon sugar
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon fine grain sea salt
1/2 teaspoon dry oregano
1/2 tablespoon olive oil
4 tablespoons butter
1/2 tablespoon garlic salt Stir together the water and sugar. Pour the yeast over the water and give it a stir (no need to dissolve it). Let that sit for 5 minutes. It should bubble and get foamy, that means the yeast is alive and working.
In a bowl combine the flours, salt and oregano. Pour in the yeast mixture and oil. Stir until a dough ball forms (if you're using a stand mixer use the dough hook attachement). Knead for 5-6 minutes, until the dough becomes elastic-like. Place in a light greased bowl, cover and allow to rise for 1 1/2 hours.
Roll out on a lightly floured surface. Place on your baking sheet that has been lightly dusted with flour or cornmeal. Now here's the really important part: melt the butter and stir in the garlic salt. Brush the entire crust with the garlic butter mixture. Now bake at 400°F for 5 minutes. Brush with any remaining garlic butter and add your sauce, cheese and toppings. Bake for an additional 8-10 minutes until the cheese begins to bubble.
I topped mine with a store bought sauce, mozzerella, tomatoes, basil and avocados. But you do your thing. xo. Emma

Do you always top pizza with avocado? I keep forgetting to try this, but can’t believe that I haven’t yet because avocado is my favorite food (and pizza is in the top 5!).
The recipe of pizza Dow making that is given in this blog is really amazing and I also agree with this that the pizza is the unhealthy food but I love to eat this and if you want to order the online pizza then takeaways is really best online food delivery site….
Dominoes is delicious though 🙂 They even have a gluten free option which makes me super happy. Would love to see your gluten-free homemade crust! This pizza looks delicious – would never have thought to put avocados on pizza!

Thank you so much for sharing! Ive been reluctent to make pizza crust from scratch and Im so glad I did! I made this last night and it was so good. Perfectly seasoned! I did a short review and linked back to this recipe on my blog: http://makingmondays.wordpress.com/2013/09/03/cooking-with-pinterest-garlic-butter-pizza-crust/ Thanks again!
I actually tried this recipe out last night and made pizza for a movie night in with friends – was amazing! and they were well impressed that the crust was made from scratch – Used similar toppings to your suggestions as well (with the addition of sun dried tomatoes) was so yummy! can’t wait to try it again with different toppings!

That looks totally delish and gourmet! One of these days I will tackle making my own pizza crust from scratch. I’ll bet it just tastes awesome.
Hey there 🙂
I love pizza too (who doesn’t?!) 😉
But I always use honey instead of sugar, it changes the dough a bit, the colour is crispier and the taste is..heaven! Have you tried it? Once I went there, there was no coming back for me.
Lot of love,
Stefanie
