Hello, Iceland!

Iceland via A Beautiful MessHey, friends! We had such an incredible time in Iceland, and today we just wanted to share a few photos from our trip with you.

Iceland via A Beautiful Mess Iceland via A Beautiful Mess Iceland via A Beautiful Mess Iceland via A Beautiful Mess The Blue Lagoon did not disappoint. It was absolutely stunning in person and by FAR the warmest thing we did in Iceland (haha!), which I loved. The color is absolutely incredible. I highly recommend it and will do it again next time we visit.

If you’re curious how we were able to get so many photos in the water at the Blue Lagoon, you can check out our underwater camera gear here.

Iceland via A Beautiful Mess The next day, we took a tour of the Golden Circle with the Mountaineers of Iceland. They have all sorts of different tours available (we did the Pearl tour), and we had a great experience!

Iceland via A Beautiful Mess Iceland via A Beautiful Mess Iceland via A Beautiful Mess Iceland via A Beautiful Mess It was SO beautiful everywhere you looked.

Iceland via A Beautiful Mess Also, SO cold. Brrrrrr. In mid October, when we went, the weather was in the high 40s (Fahrenheit), so we tried to bundle up as best we could and make the most of it!

Iceland via A Beautiful Mess Haha! I’m glad we got a pic together, but I can kind of see the pain on our faces. Haha! Oh well—it was SO pretty and right after this photo, we had soup!

Iceland via A Beautiful Mess Iceland via A Beautiful Mess Iceland via A Beautiful Mess Iceland via A Beautiful Mess Iceland via A Beautiful Mess Iceland via A Beautiful Mess What a view. (Part of the tour we went on included snowmobiling on a glacier…whoa.)

Iceland via A Beautiful Mess Iceland via A Beautiful Mess Iceland via A Beautiful Mess This little courtyard made our day! It was such a fun thing to run into on our walk to lunch.

Iceland The Kex Hostel. We grabbed lunch here and loved it. One of the best meals we had on our trip, actually, and such a cute spot!

Iceland ♥♥♥♥♥

Iceland We fell in love with the pizza place with no name. SO good. We got the potato pizza and the spicy fries…twice.

Iceland This is the church where you can go up to the top to get pics of the colorful roofs.

  • Hi Ladies,

I love the pictures you took during your stay in Iceland. I’m actually looking into planning a trip to Iceland this year. As I was researching I remembered that you had made this post a while back. I wanted to ask you, where did you guys land when you arrived in Iceland?

  • Looks absolutely stunning 😀
Now I remember why I always wanted to go to iceland Its beautiful
Your pictures make want to go there instantly

  • Love these recommendations! I also wonder how people get those pictures of Iceland haha

  • I would definitely skip the Blue lagoon next time because it’s so freakin’ commercial. When you do a round trip of Iceland you have Myvatn Nature Baths in the north, which are completely similar to the Blue lagoon, but about half the price and half the number of people. Additionally, a lot of farmers have hot tubs on their lands, which for a couple of bucks, you can go in and enjoy for as long as you like. My boyfriend and I hot tubbed our way around Iceland and purposely skipped the Blue Lagoon because there’s just so many other wonderful places to dip yourself in that weirdly warm and funny smellin’ water. Your pictures make me so terribly homesick of Iceland. I never want to go any other place than that strange land anymore.

  • The blue lagoon should be very comfortable. I haven’t been to Iceland. Someday I will =)

  • We didn’t like the blue lagoon since we stayed at the blue lagoon hotel the private pool was way better so I guess it ruined our blue lagoon experience. :p

  • Hey Robin,
I think it could be, but if I went with a kiddo I’d probably pick the summertime (since it’s the warmest time of the year) they told me July-August are best. It’s supposed to be still kind of chilly, but not SUPER cold.
    xx- Elsie

  • Hi Emma,
Yes, the food and drink was expensive (more than New York prices). We didn’t get to see the Northern Lights this time. 🙁

  • Oooooh I want to go so bad!! What amazing photos! Would you say it’s a kid friendly destination, I’m having to figure out a whole new way of traveling now that I have a toddler(no more pub crawls darn it!). And I may have already asked but have you guys seen the documentary “Heima” about the band Sigur Ros going home and playing shows all over Iceland? It’s so good.

  • Love this! I would love to know more about your trip to Iceland and the places you stayed. It looks beautiful!

  • Hi ,love your pics very inspiring, would you say the food and drink is expensive ?did you see the northern lights?

  • that looks amazing! iceland is definitely going on my to-visit list. 🙂 xo

  • Iceland is definitely on the bucket list!

  • I’ve been brainwashing my boyfriend to move there with me for the rest of our life . hahahah x

  • Looks amazing! Can’t believe you captured the rainbow. Magic.

  • This is so funny! I was in Iceland last year and I`ve been to the exact same spots as you! One of my best friends lives in Iceland and I hope to visit her again soon! Such a beautiful country 🙂

  • I’ve just been reading a great book called ‘Names for the Sea: Strangers in Iceland’ by Sarah Moss. It’s about a British family who lived in Iceland for the year, and the differences and similarities between the two cultures are fascinating! I’ve been reading a little bit every morning on my commute, which makes it so much more pleasant!

  • This is an incredible place with such beautiful scenery! I would like to see more photos!

  • I’ve been waiting for this post, i was in Iceland a couple of weeks before you guys and when i see this, i love to go back! There are so many things we didn’t do. I really would love the check out the little courtyard and KEX. I really loved it! I should start writing my own Iceland experience

  • So inspiring ! I am from Belgium and am planing a trip to the States next summer. Maybe I wil fly with Icelandair and check out beautiful Iceland !

  • Photos are beautiful! Just made me want to go to Iceland…

  • Such beautiful pictures!

  • Fall weather, colorful walls, hotsprings, snowmobiling and waterfalls? Yes please. This place looks like a dream.

  • I live in Iceland! I’m really glad you enjoyed the stay! And I love the photos 🙂

  • Ahh Iceland, it’s the best. I can’t believe it’s already been 7.5 years since I was there. I need to go back!

  • wow such beautiful photos and such beautiful landscapes! i have go to visit one day!

  • oh no! i hope your rings were ok after being in the blue lagoon! When i was there last summer, they warned that even pure gold will get permanent damage from the chemicals in the water!!

I took off all mine, but my bathing suit had metal hardware, that is absolutely destroyed now. that stuff is serious!

    but beautiful pictures!

  • Iceland looks absolutely gorgeous!! The Blue Lagoon looks simply heavenly with the cold weather we’ve been having lately!

  • Awww! I absolutely LOVE Iceland. I went there for a third time this summer and it is just as lovely as the first time. It’s so fun to see that you went to some of the places that my family and I went to. The Blue Lagoon is my favorite. So glad you had a great trip! xx

  • Aww, Iceland looks so lovely, I want to visit now! Another place on my travel list 🙂

  • Oh my gosh this looks incredible. I just turned to my husband and said ‘Can we book flights to Iceland?!’ Would love to go!

  • these photos are absolutely breath taking Elsie, Iceland looks so beautiful despite the cold and how I would love to be in that Blue Lagoon right now x

  • So lovely photos – we went twice in Iceland, last time in July. This country is amazing, landscapes are so impressive and the light in summer is incredible as it’s never really dark. Reykjavik is such a great city, laid back but very trendy too. I hope to go back there soon.

  • This looks like a fun trip! Iceland is a majestic country and it’s actually a pity that it isn’t among the popular destinations… You just convinced me to add it to my travel bucket list! Thank you!

  • This might be a dumb question but are there any sea creatures in the blue lagoon? It looks lovely but I’m terrified of sea life hahah

  • Loved this post – brought back so many happy memories of our trip to Iceland a few years back. One of my favourite countries ever- breathtakingly beautiful and so friendly. Your pictures are absolutely stunning. Wish we’d gone on snowmobiles – looks so fun.
