How To Style A Knot Hairstyle

Knot Hairstyle (with photo instructions!)Lately, I've been styling my hair in knots instead of braids. I shared a photo on instagram and got a bunch of requests for a how-to. Well, here you go. It really is just tying your hair up in knots and adding a few bobby pins. Here we go…Knot Hairstyle InstructionsThis style is super easy to achieve. First, pull your hair into two low pigtails. Divide each side into two pieces and tie as many knots as your length will allow for (I do four on each side). I pull the pieces upwards as I am tying the knots. Before you pin, use your fingers to loosen each knot. Secure with as many bobby pins as needed. I don't use any hairspray, but if you have finer hair it might be a good idea. 🙂 That's it!Knot HairstyleI love how the knots create a more textured look than regular maiden braids. As my hair is getting longer, I am trying to experiment with styles that didn't work for me at shorter lengths. If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them! xo. Elsie

  • so nice i’m looking for a kind of new hairstyle.
i try this in my hair .my friends say beauiful and also want to learn it.
    thank you for your sharing.

  • It’s really cute. Mabe,You can try other hairstyles, such as long curly hair.

  • I have just tried this and I love it! When I took it out it left my hair with a lovely curl to it as well. Thank you so much for this, it will save me lots of time faffing about with different hair dos in the mornings!

  • Nice – I am always looking to do something with this mane-o-mine – I like this – “The Forget me Knot”
    LOL ~ Thanks!

  • cute! I wonder if my hair is long enough for this. I’m still growing it out, and it is in the awkward stage.

  • I did this hairstyle today and all of my students loved it! (I am a teacher in Spain) We had to spend the last part of class having a hairstyling session so they all could learn how to do it. Great style, thanks for sharing!

  • I love it. Unfortunately, it doesn’t really suit me. 🙁

  • love this! my hair is too long and thick…didn’t look this cute. on another note…where did you get the top? it’s super cute!!

  • I tried this and I ended up looking like a Gibson girl, which was not at all the look I was going for! I don’t know how you keep your hair from poofing out on the side when you pull it upwards like that, because that is what happens to me every time I try this style or maiden braids. Maybe I was born about 100 years too late, because I could rock the Gibson girl look easily if a side poof was still in fashion!

  • I LOVE this so much that I tried it! (Check the first picture on this post: http://bit.ly/VjO3Uk) Great post!

  • I have a friend who is braid obsessed lately and she loves that I have long hair! I have to show this to her. 🙂

  • wow – i pinned it and looking forward to trying it – milkmaid braids were convenient but I looked kind of awkward – let’s see how this looks on me 🙂

  • I have a simple tutorial on how to do a low tucked bun. http://seaglassandribbons.blogspot.com/2012/12/hair-tutorial-tucked-low-bun.html
And also this fancier ponytail braid:

I love having long hair because there are so many options! I’m going to have to try this 🙂

  • As a person who now helps fashion designers/hairstylist start companies by providing funding. I can tell you these styles are very nice. The model in the picture looks like she could be related to Zoey Deschannel.

  • Oh this is gorgeous, I really hope it works as well in my thin hair and without a fringe. Sadly I fear it won’t! Thanks for sharing the tutorial though. xx

  • lovely hairstyle! i’ve rebel hair so i’m always looking for a way to keep them in place!

  • Love this look! Never thought to try this with knots instead of maiden braids.

  • With longer hair it;s always hard in the summer heat. The past few years I have been braiding one big french braid around my head to make a crown, and it works well to get all the hair up and off my neck.

  • I love this!! I’m starting to let my hair grow and I can’t wait to try this. The knots seem like they will keep the hair from lying flat against the head and give it more interesting texture. Thanks for the tutorial 🙂

  • I have shoulder length hair so what I do is French braid the lower section of my hair and plait/knot from my ears onwards. Keeps the shorter lengths in check yet let’s me try out your hairstyle ideas (which I adore) 😀 x

  • Finally! I love your hair tutorials and eagerly waited for the next one to come…thanks!

  • Right, I am giving this a go! I always have the messiest hair and this looks as though it could be the answer. THANK YOU for the tutorial!

  • Love this look! It seems somewhat easy to do and adds instant glam. It always surprises me how much we focus on our outfit and forget about our hair but it makes such an impact on our overall look!

  • You should try rope braids. They look great like this too! I wear my maiden braids using the rope braid weekly.

  • love this and seems much easier than braids…thanks for sharing 🙂

  • Love this! So simple yet it looks kind of fancy! Love that milk maiden look.

  • wow I love this and am going to definitely use it… For me it’s really annoying trying to make maiden braids because I have quite long hair, so this is an awesome alternative and looks easier too!

  • Q: But is it not a nightmare having to untangle it when you’re done, I hate trying to get knots out of my hair?!
A: Oh no, these knots act more like braids. I wouldn’t, personally, sleep in them. but they will come out easily at the end of the day!
    XO!

  • Ooooooohh wow this looks so pretty! But is it not a nightmare having to untangle it when you’re done, I hate trying to get knots out of my hair?!

  • Lovely hair tutorial. And so simple. I reckon even I could do this!

  • Cool! I don’t really do anything with my hair because I am not skilled in that area, but this looks easy enough for me to do.

  • This looks great. I always shy away from these hairstyles because I have long thick hair and it needs so many pins. I shall this though 🙂

  • Very cute! I wish my hair were long enough to do this. Right now the only knots in my hair are the tangled kind. 🙂

  • Gotta try this! I do not master the maiden braids, maybe the knots will be easier… Looks so cute!

  • I am dying for my hair to grow faster so it is long enough to do up fun like this. I’ll have to save this one for later. 🙂
