Slytherin-Inspired Bedroom

Our Harry Potter-inspired bnb house has five bedrooms. So, of course I had to make four of the bedrooms themed after each of the houses of Hogwarts. This master bedroom is located just off the kitchen and dining area.

It’s a very spacious room (quite a bit bigger than the master bedroom in our own home, ha!) and since the full bathroom that is attached to this room already had green tile that I didn’t plan to change, I decided to make this into the Slytherin-inspired room.

Here’s a before and after of this room. Clearly updating the floors was a big change for this space. Other than that, all we really did was paint and then decorate/furnish this room according to the theme.

Each room that is themed after a Hogwarts house has a banner on the door, indicating which house it is. I also chose to add one colored accent wall in each room, picking a color that I felt represented the house—so of course our Slytherin-inspired room has a dark green wall.

There is a king-size bed, side tables, a large dresser, TV, and a few fun/spooky decor items. I also chose to add black velvet curtains, which I actually have in my master bedroom at home as well because they do such a great job of blocking light in case you want to sleep in.

Here are a few of the items from the room. I have to admit, the snake rug is probably my favorite! Items: 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7

Keely helped me make the prints that hang above the bed. I wanted to have some fan art in each room that had something to do with the houses motto or history from the books/movies.

In the Slytherin-inspired room, there’s a print with the definition of Horcrux, one that is a “recipe” for Polyjuice Potion, and then one is the words to one of the unforgivable curses (the killing curse! ah!). And I chose Green Agate from Behr for the accent wall.

See the room resources below for more details. Are there any Slytherins out there reading this? Do you feel I did your house proud? 🙂 xo. Emma

  • hi ! i wondering how or where you got the framed pictures (horcrux definition, polyjuice recipe & killing curse). did you print it out ?
love the room btw im a slytherin:)

  • Can you post the link on where we can book this bnb? Im planning a trip for my family, after the virus of course, and i want to know where I can book this trip. These themed rooms are everything!

  • Absolutely love this! Do you have a link to your airbnb? Plus. do you have a link to the black and gold skull & snake banner?

  • Love this! That is my favorite shade of green! ???? You did a good job with this house Emma! Wish I could come to stay there! And since I am commenting: LOVE your podcast! You have made my Mondays so much better! ????

  • Omg! This room is perfect! As a Slytherin I’m now considering redoing my whole bedroom!

  • I would have difficulties stepping on the snake, but do love the rest of the room. I just could not step on the snake. For real.

  • Wonderful home tour! These doors are beautiful, and I am obsessed with your wall. I can’t wait to see more of your home!! Well done,

  • I am the absolute biggest Harry Potter fan – I unashamedly go around visiting all the locations from the film when I can – so this is just about my favourite thing ever. I love the rug, and the skull and snake banner – do you have a link for that at all? Can’t wait to see what you’ve done with all of the other house – especially Ravenclaw as that’s my house.

  • That rug is AMAZING!!!! I am a SlytherPuff and I love love love this. I need to look up the links now!

  • Love this Slytherin room! I’m a Hufflepuff though. Hufflepuff is the best because we keep to ourselves but we’re just as brave and loyal as any. Plus our house is right by the kitchen and where they keep all the beer. Our mascot is the badger for a reason. HONEY BADGER DON’T CARE!

  • That rug is soooooo good for the room. I bet you were so excited when you found it!

  • Another Hufflepuff here! I love your idea, and the snake rug is cool in theory. However, I don’t know whether I could actually stand on it!

  • I am not the biggest Harry Potter fan, I really enjoy the movies, but I just never joined the following. However, I really appreciate how you created a home where anyone would feel comfortable but Harry Potter fans would really enjoy it! Everything is subtle yet whimsical. You did an amazing job!

    • Thank you SO much! That was exactly my goal—for HP fans as well as anyone to be able to enjoy the home. 🙂

  • Are there going to be tours of the other three house-themed rooms? Because I’d love to see the Hufflepuff one if so! This one is so spectacular, I can only imagine the others are on the same level!

    • Yes, for sure. I’ll be sharing all the bedrooms and I think Hufflepuff is up next. 🙂

  • Love, I love that shade of green! It looks great! ❤️✨
