I am one of those people who did the whole Barbenheimer thing. I saw the new Oppenheimer and Barbie movies in the same day. Lol. I enjoyed both, for very different reasons. I honestly can’t think of two more different films to watch in the same day, so it’s hilarious to me how many people did and how much people are comparing the movies (they are NOTHING alike).
I’ve always loved going to the movie theater, but ever since they were mostly shut down in 2020 and then I also had a baby in 2021 I haven’t gone as much as I used to. It was a fun day for me! I sometimes make myself feel guilty for having fun or “wasting time” as my inner critique says. But I’m trying to lower the volume on that voice more and more as it’s a part of me, but not the part that I need to listen to very often.
1. I had been making this dress for a while, just for fun. It was a random idea I had last winter and I’ll do any project that sparks joy in the winter (after Christmas) because it’s a really blah time of year to me. But it turned out to be the perfect dress to wear to Barbie. 🙂 I bought vintage Barbie clothes off eBay and starting sewing them to this white sheer dress, but I got lazy and decided to adhere them with fabric glue and a white felt back instead. Ha.
2. Holographic nail polish—this was a random buy but this is seriously the BEST holographic nail polish (silver) I’ve ever used. It looks amazing in the sunlight.
3. I’m currently reading The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer and loving it! It’s like if Willy Wonka was a writer who lived on a weird island.
4. The two items that get used almost every single day at our house is my double air fryer and our espresso machine. I feel like I’m living my best life, air frying food for my toddler and making myself fancy lattes.
5. Do you wear silver or gold more often? I’ve always been a yellow gold kind of gal but lately I’ve been getting more into silver. I bought these earrings and have been wearing them almost every day. They go with everything.
6. Our son turned 2 years old in early June and lately he’s been interested in the potty. I had thought potty training was still a ways off, but this past week he pooped in his training potty almost unprompted, so I’m thinking I need to educate myself and get going on that. I’d take any advice! I’ve heard Oh Crap! Potty Training is good. Anything else?
7. I recently bought a wood cut art from Creighton Barrett and hung it in my home office. It’s of a skull and cactus with mostly pink and yellow tones. I love it!
8. We also had a commission piece made by Erin Tyler for our entryway and recently hung it. It’s so lovely!
9. Do you cook ground meat often? I thought about buying this meat chopper for months and months and Idk why because we use it constantly now. This past week, I made Korean beef bowls for dinner and they were delicious!
10. Got these white overalls and did some ice tie-dye and now I wear them constantly.
P.S. Here are some recent posts in case you missed them!
- It’s zucchini season around here, so if you haven’t you should try this air fryer zucchini recipe and this easy zucchini bread.
- Lately, we’ve shared a LOT of guides to caring for different kinds of plants. Are there any kinds we haven’t posted about that you’d be interested in?
- We’ve added a bunch of new posts to Childhood Magic lately. Check it out if you’re not in the habit. It’s fun over there. 🙂
I’ve always been a silver girl! I briefly worked in jewellery last year so I bought some rose gold and gold pieces just so I had some diversity, but I feel that silver goes with everything, and I won’t be completely devastated if something was to happen to that item of jewellery as it’s not as expensive as the other two.
Emma, your dress is bonkers in the most fabulous way! I love it!
@biglittlefeelings potty training course hands down. It’s the Oh Crap method but much less condescending and prepares you much more for the minutiae. We did Oh Crap for our oldest and BLF for our youngest and I can’t believe how much better it was with BLF. If you buy the course they will answer your esoteric panicked emails!
We used the BLF course too! Toddler used his potty within 3 days and we had in total 3 accidents after, that were also mostly our fault :’) Really recommend it! Clear instructions, very easy to follow and very handy examples of things you can say to your kid to help them.
We did the Go Diaper Free potty training. It was super simple and black and white. Basically you just take them out of diapers and never go back. We took 3 days off of work to sit around and watch her constantly but we really only needed one rougher day. She was interested as well before we started, and I know that helped us a lot. She’s been potty trained since she was about 2 years and 3 months old. Highly suggest that book (and its short if not a bit overpriced but the fact that it’s short and simple really is awesome for me)
I also did the 3-day training method with my 3 kids(I don’t know the exact name but worth researching). When I was ready (mentally), it was a really fun time. I set aside 3 days and armed myself with lots of new games/puzzles/activities/straws/stickers and just focused on the child for 3 days. Lots and lots and lots of positive words and affirmation and it worked. Didn’t even use diapers for nighttime so it’s great. And when I was focused on my child for those 3 days it’s fun and not a lot of time for negative discipline. All the best. Potty training can seem daunting but you’ve got this!
Those Korean beef bowls look delicious! The dress you wore was perfect for the Barbie movie!
Yes to oh crap! I appreciate how she emphasizes it’s about you & your readiness. If he’s pooping in the potty -don’t wait-he’s telling you he’s in a “sensitive” period & ready to learn! I know tooo many people who have ignored these signs and are dealing with too much potty drama at age 3, 4, 5.
(We actually did not use oh crap! as we did elimination communication but I like her methods & communication for those who do not do EC.)
Happy Birthday to Oscar! And congratulations to the parents for surviving two years with a kid! Woohoo!
You’ll get plenty of opinions about potty training and I’m throwing mine in the mix. If this method has a name, I wouldn’t know, I stole it from a friend. When our boy was 3 we just stopped using diapers in the daytime. We blocked a weekend, covered the couch with blankets, and put him in undies. We explained it to him ahead of time and let him pick his new underwear. We sat him on the toilet
at regular intervals, and made a big fuss when he used it. We were casual about accidents.
He got the hang of it in less than a week. We did the same thing for night training but we just waited for him to get a little older. We weren’t ready for that much laundry.
Good luck!!
First off, happy birthday to your sweet little guy! I’m a pediatrician and Momma, so wanted to share our experience. I wrote about it in detail here:
http://merakikaiagapi.blogspot.com/2022/11/we-potty-trained-our-2-year-old-heres.html?m=1
We trained our first child at 20 months. I think of this like sleep training though – there are lots of ways to do this, so you will get a LOT of opinions, and ultimately it’s a matter of doing it how and when it feels right for your family. We used the oh crap/three day method, but it with A LOT of caveats and modifications. All the nuts and bolts are in that post, also happy to answer any questions. Good luck!
Thank you!!!!!!
