It’s Sunday and it’s officially OCTOBER. So this week I thought it would be fitting to do a Halloween, Thanksgiving (and soon Christmas) themed 10 things. I’m looking forward to parties, family gatherings, hosting and making core memories with my kids.
1. I just got these halloween paper garlands in the mail and they are so pretty. (See our whole Halloween board here.)
2. These galvanized metal pumpkins from Pottery Barn are so classic. You can see mine above (I painted it white). I found the perfect dupes at Michael’s for a lower price.
3. I just watched the original Halloweentown from 1998 with my kids and they LOVED it!
4. My Halloween costume. I love an easy mom costume.
5. I got these skull glasses (because Anthro was sold out) and I have to say the quality is perfect!
6. The best Halloween Frame TV art. You can also get it as an art print: Witches Waterskiing.
7. Going to try these shoes from Etsy. So cute. I’m loving the ballerina shoe trend this season.
8. Currently reading this book and very into it. I heard about it from a reader (please always send me your favorite end of the world or witchy books).
9. Has anyone tried this stovetop popcorn maker? I think I’m going to get it. I love making stovetop popcorn, but I burn it about one in every three or four times.
10. Love these floating candles (be sure to get the wand option). These are the ones I used in my kitchen.
P.S. Here are some recent posts in case you missed them!
- Pumpkin Spice Latte and Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew
- Lychee Martini and Margarita
- Candy Apples and Caramel Apples
- Lemon Drop Shot and Green Tea Shot
- Halloween Jello Shots and Halloween Cake Pops
- Be sure to follow our Amazon storefront.
Please let us know what kind of blog posts you’d like to see for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas! xx
Book recommendation: Her majesty’s royal coven by Juno Dawson. There are 2 books out currently and they are witchy and fun and also the books are beautiful. I also have The Very Secret Society Of Irregular Witches on my list to read in October.
I heard on the podcast you’re hosting Thanksgiving, I’m hosting this year too! I’d love new Thanksgiving content. I saved the childhood magic turkey cheeseball (so cute) more kids themed thanksgiving snacks would be fun, I have a dream of a tiny kids app table.
I got one of those popcorn poppers at the thrift store, it works awesome but I recommend medium to medium-hi heat and constant turning of the handle. Takes about 3-5 minutes only!
Everyone in my family has a whirly-pop! It’s so easy and doesn’t require much oil. It’s the only way my parents ever made popcorn growing up. : )
Try this method for popcorn on the stove. It works every time, and I never burn it. I just use a regular 10-11 quart pot with lid. https://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/perfect_popcorn/. Make sure the oil is the right temp before adding the popcorn using 3 test kernels. Once you add the kernels, swirl the pot around and return it to the stove so the kernels are all coated. This will prevent them from burning. I do 2 TB of oil and 1/2 cup popcorn kernels.
I LOVED the post and collaboration you did with Aldi for Easter a couple years ago, with the menu (bunny pancakes with a raspberry sauce!) and decorations. I’d love a do-able menu for children- maybe a Christmas brunch/breakfast or craft party or evening drinks with easy nibbles where children could be involved.
I just LOVE all of the ABM posts lately! Maybe especially because it’s cozy season?? So inspired by the recipes and recommendations recently. Love you all!!!
We Ride Upon Sticks by Quon Barry is a great Halloween-adjacent book that I loved! Highly recommend!
I’m listening to How to Sell a Haunted House right now, and, if you’ve read it, I was dying over the squirrels this morning!! It’s our book club’s pick this month. It’s affirming my life long hatred of all puppets (including the nightmarish Muppets).
Also my BFF bought me similar Hogwarts candles for my bday last year and I nearly cried over taking them down when the holidays were over! But I wanted them to stay super special so they had to come down lol.
I strongly didn’t love that book (I like the author though!) :)XX
I too love stovetop popcorn and when
I burned it one too many times I bought this microwave popcorn thing and it is way more consistent and requires zero babysitting. Just add oil and popcorn and microwave for 4 minutes, perfect every single time.

We’ve had one of these poppers for many years…..As long as you are cranking and listening, you won’t burn it
I recommend the electric Whirly Pop machine for popcorn, you can use whatever oils you want.
I use that popcorn maker all the time! Never burned, all kernels pop. Love it!
yay! Good to know!
Hi! Just stumbled across your blog and oh my goodness…where do I begin?? Maybe asking the color of your front door from a few years ago…its the perfect peachy pink color. Would you mind sharing? Thank you!!
Hi! It’s Noble Blush by Behr. The complete color list from that home is here- https://abeautifulmess.com/elsies-interior-paint-colors-a-complete-guide/ XX!
I have had a Whirly Pop (same format stovetop popper) and I love it! You can basically pop every kernel. I’ve given it as a gift multiple times, and always suggest that people say, “Whirly Pop!” in the style of Justin Timberlake (I think he says “dirty bop?”
Thank you!
