Elsie and I have a theory that pancakes are almost always best at home. I think it's the pajama effect. Not that you can't wear your PJs to a diner. You could. Maybe your PJs are adorable. Mine… should stay home. So if I want pancakes in my comfy PJs, I'm gonna have to stay in and make them.
Not only are these banana nut pancakes (think fluffy banana bread), they also have layers of deliciousness in between. You'll see. First let's talk batter.
Banana Nut Pancakes, makes 10 medium-sized pancakes
1 cup flour
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
1/3 cup water
1/3 cup toasted walnuts
1-2 ripe bananasIn a bowl whisk together the flour, baking soda, sugar and salt. Then stir in the egg, buttermilk and water until nearly no lumps remain. Stir in the toasted walnuts.
Heat a pan over medium heat with a couple tablespoons butter or oil. I like to use oil to get that crispy pancake edge. Once your pan is heated pour in about 1/4-cup of the batter. Quickly lay 3-4 slices of banana into the batter. Let the pancake cook until it begins to bubble about 2-3 minutes. Then flip and continue cooking, until it's cooked through (another minute or two). You can serve these warm with butter and maple syrup. Or you can get fancy:
Add a layer of peanut butter. Yum! Bananas and peanut butter and meant to be.
Add a layer of Nutella. Boom. Nutella on pancakes is divine.
Enjoy these! xo. Emma

Emma, thank you so much for this great recepy.
Love the bananas in the mix. Delicioso 🙂
The pancakes taste great! Especially when layered with chocolate and peanut spread in between ♡ Just a tip when using gluten free flours: you might wanna add more of it, otherwise you’ll have a really wet batter 🙂
Oh my low carb lord! I’ll be trying this once I’m off the LC philosophy. At least once. Even if it means I’ll have a banging headache for two days after…
My husband doesn’t care for them but I love almond flour pancakes. They are sweet and slightly crunchy and super yummy even without any toppings.
Thanks for the recipe!! I tried making them and they’re just magnifique!! I really love your blog! 😀

Whoops, didn’t quite read the directions carefully enough, mashed the bananas first, and added them in. Banana bread pancakes instead, still a winner!

I hate to be the inevitable “is that a typo?” person, but…… The 1c of flour… Is that a typo? I am making these right now, and ended up needing to add nearly 2c of flour(about 1 3/4 or so) to get them even near correct consistency…. I make from-scratch pancakes like these pretty frequently, and we like them thin, and a 1-to-1 ratio of flour and liquid is usually how I roll….. I dunno, just wondering. I do really love the flavor though! They taste just like banana bread!
These look absolutely amazing. I would add a few slices of banana instead of the maple syrup. Def gonna try them this weekend.
Oh wow! I wish I had this right now 🙂

So glad I found these. They’re definitely going on my list of things to make. Never thought of putting nuts in pancakes. Thanks for the tip 🙂
Just woke up and made these. A few adaptations such as pecans not walnuts, and just enough milk to make a thick batter, not buttermilk, and a bit of guessing as not familiar with cups! Turned out beautifully. I liked the softened slightly caramelised slices of banana and the crunch of the nuts 🙂
Oo, so yummy. Today I had for breakfast Nutella with cake but that looks so good too. Have a great day.
These look sooo good, I’ve never made this type of pancake (the super thin crepe kind are traditional here) but you have just completely sold them to me!
Oooh, so delicious!xx

Yum! I’m always too lazy to make them + end up going to our diner 😉
OH MY GOD. A huge pile of deliciousness! I love Nutella on Banana Pancakes, never thought about PB. Good thing the next weekend is not far away and I have a new skillet.
I can eat almost anything for breakfast, but I hate the look of American pancakes. They’re so incredibly thick, not my taste. And that syrup… 😛
Other than that, I should definitely try to mix banana in my regular pancake mix 🙂
Here I am again, reading your blog hungry. I should have learned by now! 🙂 YUMMMMM.

this looks sooo delicious! deffinitely making some of these this weekend! thanks for sharing!
