Elsie’s Palm Springs Inspired Kiddo Room

Palm Springs Kiddo RoomToday I am super excited to share a tour of the newest completed room in our home, our kid-friendly guest room! Due to the fact that we moved seven hours away from our family and some of our closest friends this past year, it was a HUGE priority for us to create guest room(s) that are family friendly. Most of our siblings and friends have young children, so our goal was to create a set up that would accommodate families comfortably. And – holy cow – have we USED these rooms. We’ve had guests 2-3 times per month since January. We’ve often joked that we’re running a bed and breakfast over here, and we’re so grateful to invite our family and friends to come stay, often times impromptu, on a regular basis.

Palm Springs Kiddo Room The Palm Springs theme came to me randomly, and I couldn’t get it out of my brain. I am OBSESSED with kid-versions of grown-up things (like outfits that look like tiny adults, or tiny kids’ kitchen sets or little kid-size cars). So ultimately it seemed appropriate to create a kiddo version of my favorite place – Palm Springs, California. So I covered pages and pages of my journal with random ideas and things about Palm Springs that I wanted to give a “nod” to… see if you can spot them all!

It was a HUGE hit with Penelope as you will see below. 🙂

Collecting cute things like this is so much fun, and honestly, I have a lot of crazy clothes from my own collection that I just threw in there for them to play with.

Palm Springs Kiddo Room The bunk beds were the starting point for my design. I knew I wanted to find beds where the bottom bunk was a full size (so adults could comfortably stay in this room too when needed). I found this bunk bed frame for a pretty awesome price. We decided to paint it bubble gum pink. Then the twin and full mattresses we have are from Casper, a company I was introduced to when they donated a (very comfortable) mattress to our Habitat For Humanity house last year. This setup has been incredibly functional!

I was thrilled to find a company that not only offered a large range of designs and colours for child safe blinds but also offer a custom photo blind, where you can choose from a stock image or upload your own picture to have printed on a made to measure roller blind, vertical blind, pleated blind and even a venetian blind! all child safe…. go wild!!

  • Thanks for your online-invitation “fly with me” – to Palm Springs!
I am more than impressed by this marvellous room and perfect pics. I do like the theme of the room (how outstanding!): the wall paper in connection with the lamp, the swan an the carpet, bed and hanging basket and all the beautiful details that are so brilliantly decorated. Wow!
I have never seen such an inspiring post about how to furnish a kids room. Your little “tourist” must be a very happy girl!
Send you my best & admiring regards from Germany,
    Katja from “Alles im Wunderland”

  • Oops! I knew I would forget something!

  • I can’t even handle how amazing this room is. Penelope is unstoppable. I showed her Christmas video to my four year old niece, she loved it 🙂 This room is what dreams are made of and is so inspiring me to change up my guest room plan.

  • This is such a fun and colorful room! Perfect for kids =o)

  • Utterly adorable room. Love all of it, lucky houseguests. And lucky you for getting to decorate a kids room, nothing is more fun.

  • This is such a cute room, I am completely inspired by it. My youngest daughter is 20 months and one of her first words was “cactus” as both my mom and I love and collect cactus (my mom’s collection is amazing!). My daughter took over my oldest’s room when she was born so this is a great inspiration for her big girl room. Thanks for sharing!

  • Such a fun room! I love this so much!
